Today marks a significant day in the LJF calendar.

Five years ago today, a bearded manly man showed up on a bicycle to site - he had a hospitality background and he’d had no involvement with the construction trade. After spending a few weeks at LJF, he realised bricklaying was something he’d like to pursue, so we offered him an apprenticeship and he passed that with flying colours.

Three years in, we offered him a management role but he said he missed the bricklaying which is why he started life in construction in the first place, so we agreed to put him back on the bricks.

His progression is admirable, he gives everything 100% and he truly embodies the LJF spirit, which is why he went from bicycle to his own company van, and he went from a labourer to managing his own team. This man is Kirk, the most loyal employee I have and I have never met someone like him.

He’s a man who lives and breathes LJF, even coining the saying “I bleed blue and yellow”.

Coming to the end of this project which was build the structure, install the chamber floors & form the roofs

When I first got the call for this job, I immediately said yes purely because of the connection I have with the client… and figured I’d worry about how we were going to build it later 😂

I was pulling my hair out in the Christmas break how I was going to make it all work, but in the end there was only one way to get it done, dust the trowel off and get stuck in myself.

Extension we completed on time for this family to enjoy their Christmas dinner in their new kitchen.

This was one of our smaller projects, but as you can see it’s been highly effective for this household. The LJF team came in and added a small extension to allow for a corner bifold, and we removed a couple of walls — one being the main rear wall.

We also did something we don’t normally do on this project and left the steel exposed, which I think creates a great contrast. To finish it off, we added a picture window and a window seat, giving the space a really high-quality finish 👏🏻

Just been down to have a final meeting with Jamie & Ian. Last year was a big learning curve, and what I learned more than anything (especially towards the end of the year)is how important it is to have a strong management team in place to allow the business to scale properly.

From Monday, Jamie & Ian will be managing the projects and keeping clients fully updated with our daily and weekly plans.

Jamie has been with us a few months now and comes from a strong builder background. Ian joins us on Monday with a joinery background, so between the two of them they make a great duo to ensure our projects run smoothly from start to finish.

Update on our Fulwood full-house renovation and extension project:

Plasterers gave it a big final push yesterday and have now completed all plastering works. Tilers start tomorrow and will be on site throughout the week. The kitchen arrives a week tomorrow, ready for installation. We’re firmly on the home straight with this project now.

Our Fullwood project has been full steam ahead lately! This is a full-house revamp by the team, including a full-width rear extension and a new porch at the front. We’ve also added underfloor heating throughout the ground floor, opened up the rear, and lifted the steels so everything sits flush.

Plasterers are now getting everything ready for the arrival of the kitchen.
