A year since we started this whole rear garden transformation project in Troon. Little did I know then my life would be transformed by the end of the project in November ‘25 when I did my bi-annual bowel screening test. After showing an abnormality I was diagnosed with bowel cancer on the 24th December. Went on to have the tumour successfully removed by surgery (part robotic) in early February ‘26 and I have an Ileostomy (stoma) since with the aim of a reversal operation when the bowel has had time to heal sufficiently.

7-1/2 months post op now, with a lot of ups and downs, but now the finishing line is in sight. Another procedure under anaesthetic due the end of October and if all well with that then I’m hoping to receive a date for the reversal of the Ileostomy soon after. It’s major surgery once again with a period of recovery afterwards and also hoping it is successful.

All going well I would like to think by spring 2027 I’ll be able to resume my landscaping business to some extent or the other. Having developed A Dunlop Landscapes over a 33 year period and also been involved in landscaping for around 44 years I’d like to finish up on my own terms and not after being forced into it.

So yeah hopefully you’ll see me and Brian back out in the van again next year and we can continue carrying on the good work for my existing and future clients.

2nd of the The Generous Gardener growing away happily since being planted at the foot of this archway in June. Bears beautifully formed flowers that nod gracefully on the stem. Flowers are pale glowing pink and have a delicious fragrance. All in all a very good English climbing rose 🌸🌸🌸

I love this small deciduous wood at the Pow Burn between Prestwick and Troon beaches. Rowan, Hawthorn & Birch amongst others. Blackbirds eating the berries as I’m walking past. I’m sure there will be other small mammals in the undergrowth and likely be Owls in the evenings. A fantastic area 🌳🫐🐦‍⬛🦉🐁🍒

David Austin climbing English Rose ‘Strawberry Hill’. Beautiful clusters of mid pink, medium large, cupped rosettes. Strong delicious myrrh and heather honey fragrance. Arching branches, with glossy dark green foliage. Named after the gothic revival house in Twickenham, London. A real beauty.

One of the good things about growing plants and shrubs in pots is you can move them around as the seasons go by to fill gaps, alter viewing points and replacing seasonal plants too. A lot of watering some folk say, fair enough but it’s nice to walk through the plants to do that, you get to see everything and keep up with the weeding and pruning at the same time.

The veg plot is a bit empty after using up the potatoes 🥔 & lifting the onions 🧅 shallots 🧅 & garlic 🧄. I have one row of radish 🫜 growing that was planted a few weeks ago. I’ve added 🫜another row today as well as a row of Pak Choi 🥬 & two rows of Kale 🥬. Probably just pick those as leaves as they grow at this stage of the season. 🤞the seeds germinate 🌱🌱🌱.
A bowl of ripe tomatoes 🍅 & sweet 🫑 & chilli 🌶️pepper from the greenhouse along with onion 🧅 & garlic 🧄 I’ll make this into a sauce/base for meatballs etc. Rosehips & leaves slowly turning into the next season’s colours 🍂🍂. Everything moves along naturally..
