When the initial feedback from the planners was that support for a side extension would be unlikely and certainly no garage (due to location in a conservation area) to have got both feels like a win! Client was brave enough to go for the suggested colour palette of black with more black.
Timber clad front and rear (designed to conceal the garage) and zinc cladding wrapping up and over side elevation and roof for those who are interested. 😄

Really great to see progress on these city centre apartments. They’re going to be fantastic when finished. Right in the heart of Leeds but really generous spaces with great views and really high quality finishes. Great job to be involved in along with HMS Planning and Urban Design.

Was great to see one of my client's recently completed kitchen. How lovely is this bespoke terrazzo kitchen worktop! It was laid using traditional hand casting methods. A typical mix is made up of marble chippings mixed with cement but this worktop has been personalised with some additional sentimental items ‘thrown in’ the mix. This included a glass vase and 'wedgewood' (memories of their parents) as well as beach pebbles and broken granite pieces from their favourite beaches and picnic spots. Such a nice idea which has added a lovely splash of colour and created a really unique family kitchen.

The oak framed garden room to the rear of this family home is very nearly complete. The family are looking forward to enjoying the space and the better access and connection to the garden that it will provide. Oak frame by Yorkshire Oak Frames.

Alongside Susan at HMS Town Planning & Urban Design we received confirmation that Planning permission has been granted today for two rooftop apartments in the conservation area of Kirkgate, Leeds.

Great to see this project recently completed. A single storey extension to rear of family home created a much more sociable open-plan kitchen / living / dining area - perfect for up and coming family get-togethers.

Good news! Full planning permission granted for a new 1st floor glazed frontage and balcony at the Packhorse Centre, Huddersfield.

The design removes a dated cladded elevation to smoothly bridge the two listed buildings on either end.

It's been wonderful working with Susan at HMS Town Planning & Urban Design again on another successful approval.

Back in 2020 a photographer from Homebuilding & Renovating magazine came and took some photos of our house. Two years later and there we are! Absolutely delighted to see it finally featured but Oh! wasn’t it clean and tidy before we got a dog! 🙄🐾

Planning permission granted today for a contemporary extension to a family home in Calverley.

The original application met opposition from the planning department, in part because the addition of a garage was considered inappropriate to a Victorian house. We revisited the proposals, and my clients were brave enough to agree to resubmitting with a contemporary approach. We received good news the revised scheme has been approved today. (And yes, the proposals still include a garage!)

The icing on the cake for me is the planning officer's comment: "The proposal will act to preserve the special characteristics of the Conservation Area and positive building whilst introducing a form of development that would enhance the street-scene through good design standards."

The views from my new site today were fabulous! (Worth climbing a ladder for even!) I’m really looking forward to being involved on this one especially as it is located in my old stomping ground in Huddersfield. Lots of happy memories of studying there. Great to be working with Susan Chan at HMS Town Planning & Urban Design again.
