Another plant that’s done quite well during the recent heatwave are Honeysuckle!

produces an abundance of striking flowers that fill any garden with their sweet perfume. It supports several such as and the white admiral butterfly that relies specifically on honeysuckle.

Pollinating moths are attracted to the scent of honeysuckle at night, when it is strongest; and birds, including thrushes, warblers and bullfinches, eat the berries when they ripen in late summer and autumn.

We love these fast-growing climbers that establish quickly, are drought tolerant and create colourful displays.

Here is a little front garden that’s been upgraded.

Out came periwinkle, the struggeling box hedge and grasses.

In came Mexican daisies, English lavender, blue salvia and verbena.

It’s more colourful, more drought resistant and the love it too.

Lawn care in a heatwave?

Traditional lawns require a lot of care and water. In a warming climate there are easier options available like a clover lawn or wildflower area that are better suited to the climate and support better.

However if you are like some of our customers who do love their traditional lawn, now is a fantastic time to pull out those wildflowers and weeds without the need for pesticides! Due to their deeper roots and better adaptations they are the only green thing left.

Once the heat is over and it starts raining again the lawns will grow back.

Happy Father’s Day!

In botany, dioecious plants are those that have completely separate male and female individual plants.

So don’t be surprised if you see a spinach, holly, asparagus or a Kiwi plant down the pub. We humans are not the only ones celebrating Father’s Day today.

Vote for the bee!

The Bank of England is printing new banknotes and the buff-tailed bumblebee made the shortlist!!

We do bee-friendly gardening to help like the buff-tailed bumblebee. It works longer hours, flies in worse weather, and does more for our food and wildflowers than most people realise. If any creature deserves a spot on a banknote, it’s this one.

Delphiniums are a classic cottage garden perennial.
They will come back for about 3 to 5 years and are known for their tall, dramatic flower spikes in shades of blue, purple, pink, and white, attracting many .
They thrive in full sun and rich, well-drained soil sometimes requiring staking for support and protection from strong winds.
