Not every unit you export is worth the same amount 💰
On a flat export rate, timing changes nothing: a unit sold at midday earns exactly what a unit sold in the evening earns. On a time-of-use export rate it is not flat, and the same kilowatt hour is worth different amounts at different points in the day. That is the whole reason it is worth knowing your rate table rather than the single headline number on the tariff.
Once you know when your rate is highest, the decisions get simple. Shift what you can into the cheaper windows, hold the rest in the battery rather than sending it out at the low rate, and export into the best paying window. And whatever your export rate does, a unit you use yourself avoids the full import price, which is usually worth more than selling it.
