This is why we use a loft lifter 👆

Structural steels are heavy, awkward and need to be positioned accurately. The loft lifter allows them to be safely lifted and placed exactly where we need them, ready to form the new structure.

Safer, quicker and far more efficient than trying to move them manually.

The right equipment makes a big difference on a loft conversion. 🏗️

PROJECT MORECAMBE | PRE-START MEETING

Today we’re introducing our next loft conversion project.

This property will be undergoing a hip-to-gable loft conversion, creating valuable additional space without increasing the footprint of the house.

Before work begins, we’ve met with the clients to run through the plans, access, scaffolding, programme and those final details that are much easier to resolve before anyone picks up a tool.

We’ll be documenting the full build—from the existing loft through to the completed conversion.

Follow along to see Project Morecambe take shape. 🏠🔨

You don’t see many of these anymore…

These two Velux windows were originally installed as part of the loft’s fire-escape strategy.

If there was a fire, the idea was that you climbed out through the window, made your way onto the roof and used a metal chain ladder to get down.

We actually found the original ladder as well—I just forgot to get a photo of it! 😂

It’s a fascinating reminder of how differently some older loft conversions were designed and how fire-safety approaches have changed over the years.

Would you fancy using this as your emergency escape route?

This is what we mean when we say “unused loft space.” 👀🏠

This started as nothing more than an empty roof space full of trusses.

Then the transformation begins…

🔨 Structural steels installed
🪚 New floor structure formed
🏠 Roof structure altered
🪟 Velux windows installed
⚡ First fix electrics
🔥 Insulated throughout
🧱 Plasterboard & plaster
🎨 Then onto the finishing work

Swipe through and you can see the space gradually turn from an unusable loft into a completely new floor of the house.

One of the things we want to show more of on this page is what actually goes into a loft conversion — not just the finished photographs.

If you’ve got a loft in Reading or the surrounding areas and you’re wondering what could be done with it, drop us a message.

Taking the sag out of this existing roof 🔨

Not every part of a loft conversion is about building something new.

On this project, the existing roof had developed a noticeable sag over the years. Before progressing with the new loft structure, we’re carefully using Acrow props to bring the rafters back into line.

It’s done gradually, adjusting the props a little at a time until we’re happy with the roof line, before the new structure is fixed in place and everything is secured.

One of those details that will eventually be completely hidden — but it’s important to get right.

Another step forward on this Reading loft conversion 👌

Another Velux loft conversion completed in Berkshire ✅

A clean, cost-effective way to add usable space without altering the roofline.

This project maximises natural light, improves head height where it matters, and creates a practical new room without the need for a dormer.

Nearly 30 years in the trade and still love seeing these spaces come together.
