We’re coming up to three months since Colin joined Airwright as an Estimator, and what a great addition he’s been to the team already. 👏

With over 20 years of scaffolding experience, Colin brings a huge amount of industry knowledge from working across the construction, house building, industrial, and major project sectors throughout the UK.

Having progressed through roles including Contracts Supervisor and Branch Manager, Colin’s experience, leadership, and attention to detail are already making a real impact here at Airwright.

What really stands out about Colin is his passion for doing things properly. He takes real pride in his work, enjoys technically challenging projects, and has embraced the estimating side of the business brilliantly.

Since joining Airwright, Colin has settled in incredibly well, is thriving in the role, and has quickly become a valued part of the team.

This major National Grid development will play a key role in supporting the UK’s future energy infrastructure and clean energy transition, making it fantastic to see members of the Airwright Midland team being recognised on such an important project.

Great to see strong progress being made across site for our customer:
🔹 First floor internal blockwork to two lifts, including loading bays and birdcages
🔹 Beam works to the roof skylight voids
🔹 Handrails installed on staircases
🔹 Ongoing staircase works

Steve Boulton - A Day in the life of a Health, Safety & Compliance Manager (TA) at Airwright Midlands👷‍♂️

⏰ 05:00 – Alarm goes off

One hour to shower, shave and grab a coffee before heading out the door at 06:00.

🚗 06:00 – 07:00 – Travel to first site

🏗️ 07:00 – 09:00 – On site

Delivering TBTs to the lads, carrying out H&S audits and inspections (including statutory 7-day scaffold inspections), and providing technical guidance on scaffold access solutions for both clients and the management team.

Then it’s rinse and repeat across multiple sites:

🚗 09:00 – 10:00 – Travel

🏗️ 10:00 – 12:00 – Site

🥪 12:00 – 13:00 – Lunch

🚗 13:00 – 14:00 – Travel

🏗️ 14:00 – 16:00 – Site

🚗 16:00 – 17:00 – Travel home from the third site of the day to be greeted by my wonderful wife and loving Nelly (the dog)

This routine may seem tedious to some, but I’m a strong advocate that active Health, Safety & Compliance monitoring on site is the foundation of:

✔️ A positive safety culture

✔️ Strong relationships with scaffolders and clients

✔️ Identifying hazards and risks not already controlled within RAMS

💬 Steve's Motto:

“You cannot manage Health, Safety & Compliance from behind a desk in a warm office. You need to get out on site, into the thick of it, and onto the battlefield to make a real difference.”

📊 PS: This routine runs four days a week. One day is spent in that warm office collating data, analysing trends, and completing the HS&C admin that comes with the role.

On site is where safety culture is built. 🙌

Another job wrapped up ✅

We’ve just completed scaffolding works at the 📍 University of Birmingham – Medical School, carried out on behalf of Pailings M&E Services.

Our scaffold included safe working platforms and a system staircase, put in place to allow ductwork removal on the building and give the trades safe, easy access throughout the job.

Good to be involved in a project at such a well-known site and a pleasure working alongside everyone on it.

✨ Growing the Next Generation of Scaffolders at the wRightWay Training Academy ✨

Two weeks ago, we welcomed four new trainees into our in-house training academy, the wRightWay. This is a big step in our long-term commitment to developing talent from within and supporting new starters as they begin their careers in scaffolding.

Our aim is to bring in a new intake every six months, guiding each cohort through a structured programme that blends:

🟩 CITB training courses
🟩 Hands-on, on-the-job experience
🟩 Daily support and mentoring from our amazing team

With this approach, we plan to have our trainees fully qualified within two years.

Over the past fortnight, the lads have spent time in our yard, getting introduced to the world of scaffolding right at the heart of our operations. They’ve already passed their HS&E tests and are now gearing up to attend their COTS course at the end of the month — the next step before they get their first taste of site work.

We’re excited to support their journey and proud to invest in the future of the industry. 💪🛠️
