Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) is an energy-efficient method of pushing out and replacing stale unhealthy air with drier fresh air.

Ventilation is condensation and mould’s biggest enemy as it removes the root cause: the moisture in the air. Mould is a simple plant; if you want to kill it, stop watering it. If mould has already formed, painting over it will not solve the problem. By removing the moisture and other pollutants from the air, condensation cannot settle and mould cannot grow which removes the problem at the source.

Admittedly not our favourite EV Charge Point, however, by far one of the easiest to install, as well as one of the cheapest. This unit was fitted within our customer's carport and EV SWA cabling run between the carport and the consumer unit.

The unit come's pre-flexed and requires an external connection unit in order to continue the cabling back to the consumer unit. Unfortunately, this can cause the unit to look a little untidy with coils of cabling and a junction box being present by the charger, however, if you're after a quick, cheap EV Charge Point which is renowned for its reliability then Ohme is a good choice.

In addition, the unit has an internal SIM card which allows it to connect wirelessly to the internet. This eliminates any WIFI issues which can occur should the router and EV Charge Point be too far apart.

Installation of a series of interlinked LED strip lights within a loft cupboard. All lights are controlled automatically via a door switch (genie switch).

This video depicts a recent job where we installed LED lighting within 2x cupboard after a loft conversion. The principle can be mimicked for a number of different cupboards, whether it's a larder, under the stairs or cloak cupboard. These LED strips come in a variety of lengths so that they will fit in most places.

There are many different types of garden cabins/shed. There are also many ways in which they can be wired.

You can see from the photos that we have gone for a surface-mounted PVC containment. It can be argued that seeing containment is not the prettiest of things, however, when this particular cabin is painted white it will barely be noticeable.

One of the benefits of a surface-mounted system is the flexibility for additions and alterations. When there are potential plans for possible future expansion and the requirement for more electrical points, it is very easy to add onto a surface-mounted conduit system as new cables can be pulled through the conduits.

I like to refer to this as a 13A system. It's a method of installing power to an outbuilding via a 13A fused spur, which in turn is spurred off of an existing ring main. Although it's probably the cheapest method, it means that there is a cap on the amount of electricity that can be used at any one time. This may hinder the use of electric heaters.

When more power is required, a bigger-sized cable will need to be ferried all the way back to the consumer unit where a larger supply can be taken directly from a new electrical circuit.

𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗟𝗘𝗗 💡

What a nuisance, aye? Those pesky halogen under-counter lights are always blowing or intermittently turning on/off. Sometimes a quick tap sorts them out for a couple of days, but, no doubt they'll stop working again soon!

Well, there are a few reasons why this happens (generally heat-related issues) but to be frank, it's simply easier to just not use them at all rather than try and resolve the issues.

On this job, we were tasked with finding LED under-counter lights which looked exactly like the original halogen fittings. However, please don't think for one minute that these are the only types of LED under-counter lights available.

LED has really evolved over the last decade and comes in a variety of colours (shades of white as well as RGB) and a variety of shapes and sizes.

𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗙𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘁𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗵

The solution to damp and mould in your bathroom.

Many extractor fans can't meet the humidity requirements of their bathroom. They're either too weak, too noisy or they just don't stay on long enough to evacuate all of the condensation after the shower is used.

Well, Vent Axia have resolved this issue with a Bluetooth bathroom fan. Not only does it run silently and incorporate the standard fan sensors, such as humidity and timer, but it can also be programmed to run on a repeating schedule at 3 different speeds.

We installed this fan from scratch, coring a 100mm hole through the bathroom tiles using a dustless diamond core cutter with a vacuum attachment. A 3A triple pole isolator was incorporated within the installation.

Installation of a 22kW EV Charge Point.

You rarely have the luxury of having a 3-phase 100A supply at your property. Fortunately, this commercial unit did and we took full advantage of it!

We installed the Myenergi 22kW Zappi V2.1 and Harvi wireless sensor to allow the staff to charge their electric vehicles 3-times faster than at home.

The Harvi unit allows the charge point to connect to the CT clamps via a wireless connection. Even better, the Harvi requires no mains power or batteries to function.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁 𝗨𝗽𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲

Here's a consumer unit upgrade off of the back of an EICR. There were a handful of issues with the old consumer unit, some minor, some major. The most relevant was the requirement for additional 30mA protection to a number of circuits.

As standard all our boards are fitted with individual RCBO Type-A protection and a Type-2 SPD. Our advice is to try and steer clear of dual split-load consumer units as they can prove quite troublesome and inconvenient should a fault arise.

Contactum is still our go-to consumer unit. It's reasonably priced alongside its rugged durability. You won't have to fight to get the cover on, the din rail is strong and doesn't bend and wobble whilst trying to terminate the breakers and the unit won't go askew if the wall isn't flat.

Many people question why we stagger the breakers and leave blanks between circuits. This allows breakers to be installed at a later date which will still correspond with both circuit type and rating. Higher amperages are closer to the BS60947-3 main switch and lower 6A breakers receding to the end. Any new circuit should therefore still keep the board in a uniform state.

Hello and thank you for taking the time to view our profile.

My name is Luke Wichard and I am the proud owner/proprietor of My Trusted Electrician Limited.

My company was established in 2010 as Fulgora Electrical Limited. Due to the difficuilty that both my customers and suppliers had endured over the recent years regarding the spelling of my latin named company I decided to re-brand the company as My Trusted Electrician Limited. I am confident that if the company follows in the footsteps of Fulgora electrical Limited it will in turn live up to it's new name. I apologise for any confusion that this name change may create.

I have survived up until now on simply word of mouth, but as the sole earner for my household I have felt the responsibility to ensure my work never ran dry. To do this I have now placed my company on both social media and Checkatrade. This has given me the great opportunity to present my day to day blog posts and photos/videos of my work online.

We are up to date with the current 17th edition Amendment 3 regulations and are looking forward to the new 18th edition to come into place in 2018.
