This refurbishment project in Marlborough involved restoring a fixed four-pane timber window that had deteriorated over time. The work included repairs to the frame and bottom rail, replacing damaged glazing with new toughened single panes, installing a new double-glazed unit where required, and fitting a trickle vent to improve ventilation within the room. Every stage was completed with the aim of preserving the original window while improving its performance.

Once the repairs were complete, the entire window was carefully prepared before receiving a full interior and exterior paint finish. This project involved restoring a large number of original sash windows as part of our Full Refurbishment Package, including 2 x 2 over 2 sash windows to both the front and rear elevations. Many traditional windows require specialist attention over time, and our team carried out detailed restoration works including the removal of staff and parting beads, sash removal, new pulley and cord systems, draught-proofing, sash furniture installation, and specialist timber repairs where required.

Each window was carefully prepared by removing loose and failing paint, repairing areas of timber decay using a combination of timber inserts and specialist repair resins, before being primed and finished using our specialist Remmers paint system. Restoring original sash windows allows us to improve their performance, appearance, and longevity while preserving the character and craftsmanship of the property.

This project in Christchurch involved installing a new bespoke hardwood casement into the existing frame, allowing us to retain the original window while significantly improving its performance. The new opener was fitted with our 12mm slim double glazing, which is installed by carefully routing out the existing frame to accommodate the slimmer units while maintaining the traditional appearance.

Alongside the new casement, we refurbished the existing frame, carried out glazing and reglazing where required, installed draught proofing, and completed a full preparation and painting package. The result is a beautiful white casement window that looks true to the property's original character while providing improved comfort and efficiency.
