Hornet Mimic Hoverflies lay their eggs in wasp and hornet nests whilst using similar colours and patterns to trick predators into believing they are dangerous too. Their larvae are beneficial cleaners in the wasp nest and help clear waste and debris.
Despite all of the above information it’s not often one decides to sit on my head when I’m at work.

I was surveying a loft for unknown noises recently when I heard some shuffling in the corner. When I pointed my torch towards the noise I saw something moving and managed to grab a photo before they both moved out of view. I looked at the photo expecting a rodent but found the culprit was actually a couple of bats. As it is well known that bats are highly protected species in the UK so I hopped out of the loft immediately once I had confirmation that I was actually in a bat roost. No action required on this job.

A clear sign of rat activity in an area is an abundance of empty and often chewed up snail shells. Snails are a great source of protein for rats and are quite easy to hunt.
