Float coat and finish coat now finished on this domestic project in Peckham.

We allowed a full 10-day curing period between coats, giving the plaster time to breathe and set properly for a long-lasting, natural finish.

All materials supplied as always by the best in the business Chalk Down Lime

Small domestic job started before the Xmas break 🎅🏻

We carefully hacked off the defective cement plaster and replaced it with a traditional non-hydraulic lime scratch coat — a much more suitable solution for older buildings.

Why lime matters for old properties 🏡
• Allows walls to breathe, reducing trapped moisture
• More flexible than cement, helping prevent cracking
• Compatible with historic masonry
• Improves long-term durability of the building fabric

Sometimes it’s the smaller jobs that make the biggest difference to a building’s health.

Back between Xmas and New Year to apply the float coat. NO REST FOR US ELVES.

Applying the finish coat of lime plaster to the ceiling ✨

This is where everything comes together. The final coat is all about patience, pressure, and timing—worked slowly by hand to achieve a smooth, breathable surface that will continue to harden naturally over time.

Lime plaster has a depth and softness you just can’t fake, catching the light in subtle ways and giving the ceiling real character.

Old techniques, natural materials, and a finish that will last for generations.

✨ Float Coat Day ✨
Today we brought this lime plaster ceiling one step closer to its final finish. The float coat is on—devil floated, flat, breathable, and ready to cure for a few more days ready for the finish.

🌿 Why we love lime:
• Regulates humidity naturally
• Resistant to mold
• Beautifully subtle texture
• Eco-friendly and long-lasting
Lathed, scratched and now floated. Next stop: finish coat. 👌

Today’s mission: scratch coating this new oak sawn lath ceiling back to life. 🛠️✨
There’s something satisfying about laying down that first coat—like giving the room a fresh start… or maybe just scratching the surface of its glow-up. 👏🏻
From loose plaster to solid base, this ceiling’s officially on the mend. Next stop: FLOAT COAT!

This ceiling was beyond repair and needed a full overhaul. Brand new oak sawn laths going up today—because sometimes you just need to lath your way through the cracks. 😉🪵

Some photos of a recently completed project in central London, where the client wanted their wine cellar to look like old stone. This was a very fun, albeit time consuming task to carry out. We won’t spill our secrets of how we achieved the finish, just in case the cowboys are sniffing about. Using the GOAT of lime Chalk Down Lime as always.

Finish coat applied this morning on a lovely little job in Islington. It is imperative to dampen down the float coat to ensure suction is controlled so a proper finish is achieved. The cowboys don’t know this. Using Chalk Down Lime as ever. The best gear by a mile.

Putting right Cowboys work yet again. This is becoming all too common in the industry. Chancers trying to carry out skilled work. We are being priced out of jobs by people who have no business holding a hawk and trowel, let alone using lime. Stick to the multi chaps
