A new lighting system has been wired and fitted at St Mary’s High School as part of the ongoing refurbishment works.

The new installation is now in place and ready for the next stage of the project, with new flooring and cubicles due to be fitted. Careful planning was needed to make sure everything was positioned correctly before the finishing work begins.

It is always satisfying to see the different stages of a larger project coming together, and this area is now another step closer to completion.

This smoke detector should have been replaced by March 2014 — more than 12 years ago.

Most smoke alarms have a working lifespan of around 10 years. After that, the internal sensors can deteriorate, meaning the alarm may not respond properly when it matters most.

Patching up and making good
