Can a tree with root rot be saved? Sometimes. It comes down to how much of the root plate has gone, and the canopy won't tell you that. Look for fungi at the base. Soil lifting or cracking on one side is another one. So is a lean that wasn't there last year. Autumn storms are on the way and a weakened oak or beech is usually first over. At Rotherham Tree Services we'll come and have a proper look, then tell you straight if it can be managed or has to come down. Not sure? Inspection's free, no obligation.

If a tree's come down in the wind, please don't start cutting it up yourself. A windblown trunk can be under serious tension. It can shift without warning. After the October gales we often find big ash and sycamore half-uprooted in older gardens. Roots lifted. Whole tree resting on a fence or roof. We're Rotherham Tree Services and we've been clearing storm damage across Rotherham for over 20 years now. Safety comes first, every time. First we make it safe. Then it comes down in sections and we chip the wood on site. You only pay once the job's done as agreed. If one's leaning and worrying you, give us a shout for a free inspection.

Can a tree near the house or under power lines be felled safely? Yes. But it rarely comes down in one go. In tight spots we take it down in sections and lower each piece on ropes. Nothing lands on your roof. Fences and conservatories stay in one piece too. Power lines are another job entirely. We don't cut a thing until we know it's safe. Autumn storms are due in the next few weeks, so if you've got a big sycamore or ash leaning towards the house, now's the time to get it looked at. Rotherham Tree Services will inspect it for free with no obligation. We'll tell you straight what needs doing and what doesn't.

Honest answer to "how much to take my tree down?" I can't tell you till I've seen it. Height matters. So does species. Then there's access, and what's sitting underneath it. A big sycamore leaning over a greenhouse in a tight back garden is a completely different job to an ash stood on its own with loads of room round it. Ash is its own problem anyway. Dieback makes the timber brittle, so those need more care to get down safely. That's why at Rotherham Tree Services we always start with a free inspection, no obligation. You don't pay a penny till the work's finished as agreed. Happy to pop round and have a look if you want.

Done properly, crown reduction won't harm a mature tree. We shorten the heavy limbs and take the weight off them. That gets it done before the October and November storms hit. Thinning's a different job. We take out crossing branches and crowded ones so wind and light get through, and the tree keeps its shape. It's about taking the right wood. Not lots of it. Got a TPO on your tree, or does it stand in a conservation area? Then you need permission before any work starts. Rotherham Tree Services has looked after trees across Rotherham for over 20 years. Want us to take a look? Inspections are free, no obligation.

Yes, usually worth it. Once the tree's down, an old oak or sycamore stump left in the ground can keep pushing up new shoots for years. It rots slowly too. Then someone trips on it. We grind it out below soil level so you can turf straight over or replant. Chippings go on the borders as mulch, they do a decent job. Rotherham Tree Services has been grinding stumps round Rotherham for over 20 years. You don't pay a penny till the job's done as agreed. Give us a shout and I'll pop round for a free look, no obligation.

A tree should only come down if it's dead or dying. Same if it's structurally unsound or doing real damage. Most can be saved. Good pruning or a crown reduction usually sorts it. Things I'd want to see? Ash dieback. Deep cracks in the trunk. Fungus at the base, or a lean that's getting worse over time. Before anything gets cut we check for TPOs and conservation area rules, because unauthorised work can land you a fine of up to £20,000. If removal really is the right call we'll do it safely and grind the stump out after. At Rotherham Tree Services we'll come and have a look for free, no obligation, anywhere in Rotherham. Just give us a shout.

Yes, we can clear a plot with several trees in one go. First we work out the felling order. That way nothing lands on your fence or shed, and no tree drops onto the one next to it. Before any cutting we check for TPOs. We also check whether you're in a conservation area like Wickersley or Wentworth. Get that wrong and unauthorised work can cost you fines of up to £20,000. We grind the stumps out. Brash gets chipped on site. We've been doing this round Rotherham for over 20 years as Rotherham Tree Services, and you don't pay until the job's done as agreed. Want us to come and have a look? The inspection's free, no obligation.

Yes, now's the time. Get your trees checked before the October and November storms arrive. Ash dieback has weakened plenty of established ash round here. In a gale it's usually a dead or brittle limb that comes down first, and you often can't see it from the ground. Thin the crown a bit or take the deadwood out now. That way the wind goes through the tree rather than catching the whole canopy. We're Rotherham Tree Services and we've been doing this across Rotherham Borough for over 20 years. Safety first, always. Not sure about a tree? Give us a shout and we'll come and inspect it for free, no obligation.

Main signs of ash dieback? The crown thins out. Leaves go black and wilt in summer. Look for dark diamond-shaped patches on the bark where twigs join the branches. You'll often get clumps of fresh shoots coming out lower down the trunk too, because the tree's struggling. Infected ash turns brittle quicker than most people expect. October and November storms are when the weak limbs drop. We're Rotherham Tree Services and we've been looking after mature gardens round Rotherham for over 20 years. Safety comes first, always. Not sure about yours? We'll pop round and have a look for free, no obligation.
