🔐 A tailored access control solution for one of our customers

When an existing two-wire video intercom failed, a straightforward like-for-like replacement wasn’t the best solution for the customer.

They wanted the new system to work with their existing VoIP telephone system, allowing staff to answer visitors and release the entrance door directly from their desk phones, while also integrating with the existing Paxton access control system.

Following a look at the options available, RotherSec designed and installed a solution using a Fanvil IP intercom, configured to communicate directly with the customer’s VoIP system and interface with the existing access control equipment for door release.

There was another challenge too — limited access and the footprint left by the previous intercom meant an off-the-shelf installation wouldn’t provide the finish we wanted. We therefore had a bespoke stainless-steel mounting plate fabricated, allowing the new unit to be installed securely while providing a clean, professional finish over the existing opening.

Regular servicing of your fire alarm system isn't just good practice, it's a legal requirement for most commercial premises, and something your insurer will want evidence of too.

Commercial systems need to be serviced at least twice a year under BS 5839 guidelines. It's one of those things that's easy to put off, but the consequences of a system failing when it matters most don't bear thinking about.
