Senior Estimator – Structural & Secondary Steelwork
Location: Rotherham, UK (Office Based)
Salary: £40-£50K, Depending on Experience
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
The Role
As Senior Estimator, you will play a key role in securing new business by preparing accurate, competitive and technically robust cost estimates for structural and secondary steelwork projects.
You will take ownership of the estimating process from initial enquiry through to tender submission, working closely with directors, project managers, suppliers and clients to deliver commercially viable proposals and support the continued growth of the business.
Key Responsibilities
• Review and evaluate tender enquiries, engineering drawings, specifications and contract documentation.
• Produce detailed material take-offs and labour cost estimates for structural steelwork and secondary steel packages.
• Accurately price fabrication, er****on and installation works, including cranage, plant hire, site logistics and associated project costs.
• Obtain and assess quotations from suppliers, stockholders and specialist subcontractors, including galvanising, painting and powder coating contractors.
• Prepare professional tender submissions and commercial proposals.
• Liaise with clients, architects, engineers and main contractors throughout the tender process.
• Participate in tender review meetings, negotiations and value engineering exercises.
• Identify project risks, opportunities and cost-saving solutions.
• Maintain accurate estimating records.
• Provide a seamless handover to the project delivery team following successful tender awards.
Requirements & Experience Essential
• Proven experience as a Senior Estimator or Estimator within the structural steelwork, steel fabrication or construction sector.
• Strong understanding of structural and secondary steelwork fabrication and installation processes.
• Ability to read, interpret and extract information from structural steel and
engineering drawings.
• Excellent commercial awareness and understanding of project costing.
• Strong numerical, analytical and organisational skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to manage multiple tenders and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
Desirable
• Experience using Autodesk Advanced Steel or similar software.
• Knowledge of steel er****on methodologies and site installation practices.
• Experience working directly with main contractors and end clients.
• Full UK driving licence.
