In 2018 I transformed this bedroom
I made and fitted shelving and a desk
Roll on 8 years and the customer reviled a fire place and tore out the shelves and desk for the younger son to have the room redecorated in his style
The following pictures are when I completed it the first time
To what it looked like before I recently started to redecorate
Process of dealing with problems on one of the walls, sealing and priming etc
It’s also shocking when you see how creamy the white woodwork is after painting with an oil based satin paint 8 years on
Old plaster sealed with Zinsser Gardz
All grey and sealed plaster coated up with two coats of dulux 3 in 1 base coat
Ceiling finished in Tikkurila AR2
Walls finished in Johnstones durable matt mixed in F&B Tallow
Woodwork primed in Caparol HaftPrimer and undercoated and top coated with Bedec Aqua Advance satin

Another room brought back to life
Serious mould issues from lack of ventilation and items against the walls
The process of work is as follows
Mould sprayed with Zinsser mould killer
Once dried, I Mirka sanded the walls
Once that was completed, I primed the ceiling and walls with 3 in 1 basecoat by Dulux
When dried, all filler work was completed
After the prep work was completed, the ceiling had two coats of AR2 by Tikkurila
The walls were then 3 coated with Johnstone Durable matte mixed in Jasmine Flower
All woodwork was prepared, primed with Caparol HaftPrimer and undercoated and top coated with the Bedec Aqua Advance satin system

A quick fix
The bottom of the decorative panels had swollen from years of mopping the floor
As finding replacement panels to match was almost Impossible, I explained that wrapping a skirting around the panels with a skirting that matches the existing would look perfect and solve the problem

This is why decorators detest F&B paint
This is the same tin.
The chimney breast was painted a couple of days ago so that the tv could go back on the wall but the sides were not
So, bringing in the sides and cutting into the shelving system next to it has highlighted where I have over painted onto the already painted area
It can’t be touched up
I don’t know why F&B paint does this.
The whole breast now needs a third coat
It’s a really bad paint for this
It’s a situation where it goes on first time and you just have to prey you don’t mark it
Absolute nightmare

Wow, first time using Lick paint
Never again!!!!
A watered down coat on first to seal the dry wall surface.
1 coat of full emulsion applied a few hours later.
Again repeated with a second coat around 2/3 hours after that.
No bubbles all fine.
Next day a third full bodied coat needed as the cover power is a little under par to say the least.
After roughly 15hs, the last coat goes on and this happens.
I strongly recommend you don’t use this product
I’m praying it will dry back but I’m not a religious man and my glass is always half empty, so preparing myself for dealing with this problem somehow is a little daunting.
DIY paint from places like B&Q are not worth the money
Be warned people

This was a bit of a challenge to sort
I was asked if I could fit in a quick job changing the colour of a bedroom
Sounds easy
Ah
The job was 100 miles away in Great Bedwyn
Wednesday afternoon I was asked, I then had to sort out materials while still completing the job I was on
Luckily brewers in Tonbridge have a safe box to collect materials after hours
I arrived in Marlborough at 10.30 that evening
A very stressful drive down I must admit with closure and diversions and ulez which I wasn’t expecting to deal with
Anyway
Got there, started the next day
All wrapped up and now back home
Before and after images
Process was as follows
Masking tape up all the woodwork
The whole house was recently decorated so no prep needed
The customer moving in just wanted to change the colour
Then primed the walls with Dulux 3 in 1 base coat to blank out the dusky pink then 3 coats of Johnstones Durable Matt mixed to F&B Dimity
Much more subtle for the children’s bedroom

I have just finished another project
All 10 interior doors replaced with new oak ones
I didn’t take photos of all the doors as that would be a bit boring as they all look the same but the images added are where I had to convert and old sliding system into a swung door and made good after
The door opening was too big for a standard door so I had to pack out the frame to fit the next size down
Once done, I had to reapply all the door stops and architraves to finish
In the toilet area, the runner system left a nasty area around the frame which I sorted by adding a strip of mdf along the top to fill the gap where the tiles had stopped and then added a slightly wider architrave to cover the areas where the sliding door frame was
Definitely an improvement but temporary enough to look tidy until that room is modernised.
