Recent updates to UK waste regulations mean tighter controls on what can legally be placed into a skip. Certain materials are now restricted due to environmental, safety, and treatment requirements, and mixing prohibited items with general waste can lead to extra charges, rejected collections, or compliance issues.
Items such as hazardous waste, tv’s,
lithium-ion batteries, tyres, gas bottles, liquids, asbestos, and some upholstered furniture are not permitted in our skips. Construction waste also needs closer consideration, particularly where soils, plasterboard, insulation, and roofing felts, as these materials are now strictly regulated at processing level.
Under duty of care rules, responsibility remains with the waste producer until the waste is correctly treated, not just collected. That means incorrect waste in a skip can become a legal and financial issue for businesses and homeowners alike.
