I’ve realised we’ve gone a bit quiet on here lately… and I’ll be honest, it does play on my mind that people might think we’ve gone quiet because we’re not busy or not working

— but it’s actually the complete opposite!

Truth is, when you’re grafting every day, juggling jobs, family life and running a business properly… taking photos and videos sometimes ends up last on the list, i kick myself all the time 🙈

I take great pride in every single job, big or small!!

This one here is a recent little job, a tired old lean-to roof replaced and brought back to life 👌
Nothing fancy, just done properly, neat, and built to last (how we like it).

We’re still very much here, still working hard behind the scenes, still looking after our customers — just not always the best at remembering to hit “record” 😅

More content coming soon… promise 📸😂

Not all flat roofs start flat…

This one started as a pitched roof and was fully converted into a flat single ply system, with 2 roof lanterns added to bring loads of natural light into the room below.

The lanterns installed were Korniche slimline aluminium roof lanterns with blue 1.2 glass, made to a bespoke size and to tie in nicely with the existing conservatory,
A nice little touch that really finishes it off ✨

Stripped right back and rebuilt properly with upgraded insulation and a new structure.

Works carried out:

• Full strip of existing roof
• New timber structure formed for flat roof
• Insulation upgrade throughout
• New ply deck installed
• Single ply membrane fitted with perimeter details
• Supply & Installation of 2x roof lanterns (with LED strip lighting fitted inside — kicking myself, i unfortunately didn’t get a photo once completed!)

Big difference on this one, much cleaner finish and a far better space inside, especially at night time 👍

If you’re thinking about doing something similar or need any roofing advice, feel free to get in touch — always happy to help.

Be honest… when was the last time you actually looked at your roof? 👀😂

These are some of the most common problems we come across day to day and across the UK in general. Most of them can be sorted before they turn into costly repairs.

If something doesn’t look quite right, you can send me a photo, give me a call or text and I’ll take a look 👍 As always no obligation!

Sometimes the smallest roofs hide the biggest problems…🙈

Once we stripped this old felt bay roof back, we discovered there were no proper joists and no insulation installed at all.

So the best option was to rebuild it properly from the structure up.

⚒️ Works carried out included:

• Removal of the existing felt roof covering

• Installation of new timber joists to create a solid structure

• Foil-faced Kingspan insulation installed

• New ply deck fitted

• New single-ply roof covering installed with perimeter trims

• New anthracite fascia board fitted

• External deep-flow gutter re-routed around the perimeter, tying back into the existing system so everything flows correctly

💪🏼 A much cleaner finish and more importantly, a roof that’s now properly insulated and built to last 👍

If you’ve got a bay, porch or flat roof that’s looking tired or causing issues, feel free to get in touch.

Chimney crown starting to crack?
This is how we stop the water getting in 👇

The existing cement on the chimney had been applied using the wrong mix and had started to fail, leaving the crown weak and cracking around the base of the pot and vulnerable to water ingress ❌💧

✅ Chimney crown re-cemented using the correct mix
✅ Drip edge chase cut in beneath the coping stone to throw water clear of the stack
✅ Redundant aerial removed for a cleaner, safer finish

Removing unused aerials isn’t just for looks it also:
• Stops the constant clanging & banging in windy weather (no more 3am wake-up calls 😴)
• Prevents moss and debris building up around the fixings 🌱
• Reduces unnecessary weight and movement on the chimney

All of which helps prolong the life of the stack and keeps everything looking tidy 👌

If your chimney is showing signs of cracking or deterioration at the top, it’s always best to deal with it early before it turns into a bigger job.

Roof clean carried out using a safe, manual method 👌

This Marley Modern tiled roof was heavily covered in moss, which holds moisture, adds unnecessary weight and can lead to blocked gutters if left too long 🌱

For this clean we used a preferred non–jet wash approach, carefully removing the moss by hand to avoid unnecessary stress to the tiles and to keep the roof in the best possible condition ✅

✔ Moss manually scraped and cleared
✔ Tiles left fully intact
✔ All debris removed from the roof and gutters
✔ Clean, tidy finish

This method allows the roof to be cleaned in a controlled way while maintaining the integrity and lifespan of the tiles 🙌

No chemicals used on this one — just a straightforward, careful clean.

If your roof is starting to look a little green, it’s always best to deal with it early before the moisture and weight begin to cause issues.

It's Time For A Little....Get To Know Your Roofer!

Hi, I’m Mark — the face behind The Roof Guy.

I started in roofing at 16 after leaving school. My dad was an estimator at the firm I joined and helped get me into the trade. I began at the bottom — tidying the yard, fixing nets, sorting screws and learning the job properly from the ground up.

Over the years I’ve worked across both commercial and domestic roofing and I genuinely enjoy doing both. Building nearly 20 years of hands-on experience. My wife and I decided to combine our work life experience and join forces to start The Roof Guy — bringing everything we’ve learned into something of our own.

Outside of work, I’m:

👨‍👧‍👦 Dad to a 4-year-old little girl and a 12-year-old boy
❤️ Married to my Teenhood sweetheart (who runs The Roof Guy alongside me)
⚽ Football mad — playing, watching and coaching my son’s team
🎣 Enjoy fishing (something I’d love to make more time for again)
🎬 Comedy over any other film genre
🍕 A sucker for a seafood pizza
🥯 Known for making a good breakfast — breakfast bagels are my speciality
🎶 Listen to a bit of everything when it comes to music

When it comes to work, I take a lot of pride in what I do and pay attention to the details. If something can be repaired instead of replaced, I’ll always say so and I treat every home the way I’d want someone to treat mine.

Im excited to meet more of you!

Take Care,
Mark

The existing dry verge caps had been incorrectly fitted, causing movement and an untidy finish.

I removed the original caps and installed new ones in a colour chosen by the client, fitted properly and securely.

A small detail, but it makes a big difference to both appearance and performance
