Ten years on the waterproofing, and the reason it can be offered.

Every wet area gets tanked, taped into the corners and wall junctions, and tested before a tile goes anywhere near it. It adds time to the job and none of it is visible afterwards, which is exactly why it gets skipped on cheaper quotes.

Leaks in a wet room rarely show up straight away. They turn up months later in the ceiling below, and by then the tiles have to come off to find the source. Doing the tanking properly is what stops that call ever happening.

Before, during and after, all the same corner.

Before: floor up, joists exposed, old pipework and rubble out in the open. During: waste run and set, floor made good, tanking boards fixed down and sealed ready for tiling. After: walls panelled, floor tiled, basin on and the drain sitting flush where it should.

Then the floor is prepared and the whole area tanked, which is slide two and the stage that decides everything after it. Drainage, fixtures and tiling follow, and the job closes with a full test, care instructions and the warranty paperwork handed over.

Five things Adsett covers, and the reason they sit together.

Design, installation, plumbing, wet rooms and tiling. On most bathroom jobs those get split across three or four different trades, which is where the delays and the finger pointing usually start. Handled by one person, the pipework gets set for where the tiles are going and the falls get planned before the floor goes down.

Save this one for when you are ready.

Modern is clean lines and minimal fittings. Traditional is classic fixtures and proper detailing. A wet room gives level access with the floor fully tanked underneath. Luxury is where the materials and the finer details carry the room.

Most people already know which one they are drawn to before they call. The useful conversation is whether the space you have can take it, and that is a question best answered in the room.

How a bathroom job actually runs, start to finish.

It begins with a look at the room, what you want from it and what the budget is. From there the layout gets planned around the space rather than around a catalogue, materials are picked, and only then does anything come out. The install covers the plumbing, tiling and fixtures, and the job finishes with a walk round the room checking every joint, seal and fitting.

Five steps, but the first two are where most of the value sits. A bathroom planned properly on paper is a bathroom that goes in without surprises.

Clean and tidy comes up in reviews more than anything else.

That is usually what people worry about with a bathroom job. Someone in the house for a week or two, dust everywhere, no idea what is happening next. Thanks to Stacey for taking the time to leave this one.

The ideas and advice part matters too. Most rooms have a better layout in them than the one people first ask for, and it is worth saying so before anything gets ripped out.

The finished floor is one slot drain and a flat run of tile. Getting there took four stages.

The insets show the order it went in. Ply deck laid over the joists with the drain housing cut in flush, the whole floor tanked with tape into every corner and up the wall junctions, then the boards fixed down and sealed ready for tiling. Only the last of it ends up visible.

That is the part worth paying for on a wet room. The tiles sit on top of three layers of work nobody will ever see again.

Start to finish is the bit that counts on a bathroom.

Anyone can fit a shower. The difference shows up in whether the job runs to plan, whether you know what is happening each day, and whether the room is clean and working when it is handed back.

Repeat customers and recommendations are where most of the work comes from, which is the only real measure of whether the last job went right.
