2-3 weeks wait however if you are in Dalkeith I’m there on Saturday.

If I’m in the area and I have time to look at your job I will. Otherwise it’s 2-3 weeks wait unfortunately. I don’t rush jobs or need to be somewhere else, that’s why there’s a wait. To do things correctly first time takes time. It’s plenty time for the survey, engagement, scope of works, quote, materials, equipment, risk assessment and getting rid of waste, cleaning gear. The time on-site can double with off-site activity. All part of doing things correctly 💯

A local damp franchise went to an OAP and washed off mould from the front of the plasterboard. Telling him that it was treated.

There is a leak from upstairs so the double board is a mould hotel once opened up.

The old fella admitted he couldn’t wait a week for me so went elsewhere, now 4 weeks down the line has come back to me as the smell is unbearable and the mould is back. Diagnosed leak above, the wet mouldy material is being stripped out and we will dry it out properly.

The franchise damp company had immediate availability, I didn’t he had to wait a week. Now cost him double.

You can’t clean porous plasterboard when there’s a leak it needs to be removed. Shame on them for ripping off a sick pensioner. Shysters

Mould surveyor (me!) spots a few dodgy repairs on a ceiling directly below the shower!

Yes it’s all mouldy when I strip out the ceiling.

Water leaks onto porous plasterboard particularly double boarded ceilings will mould very quickly. It needs stripped out not painted and forgotten as there’s hidden mould in the ceiling void.

Condensation on windows in August. This is my first survey since May that has condensation on the windows.

The internal humidity was found at 85% with walls and areas behind belongings covered in mould.

If the humidity in this property isn’t sorted ASAP before the colder weather hits it will be a very costly repair for the landlord and all down to elevated internal humidity.

Just seen this utter nonsense online to deal with mould. All utter bat s**t crazy!

Remedies and Prevention Methods

1. Talcum Powder

It might sound strange, but talcum powder is a helpful ally against moisture. Just as it absorbs moisture in shoes, it can help reduce dampness on walls.

Sprinkle talcum powder directly on the damp wall.

Rub it gently with a cloth to help it pe*****te.

Repeat the process several times for best results.

2. Bleach

This method removes mold but not the underlying moisture.

Mix one part bleach with one part water in a spray bottle.

Wear rubber gloves, safety glasses, and a mask.

Spray the solution and scrub the affected area with a brush.

⚠️ Caution:

Use in a well-ventilated area, away from children and others.

Avoid colored walls, as bleach can cause fading. Best for white surfaces.

3. Hydrogen Peroxide

Ideal for smaller mold stains.

Soak a cloth in hydrogen peroxide.

Apply to the mold and let sit for 15 minutes.

Scrub until the mold is gone.

Again, wear gloves, a mask, and ventilate the room. Keep children out during the process.

4. Water, Vinegar & Alcohol Mix

A more natural solution that won’t discolor the walls.

Mix warm water with 1 cup of vinegar and 1 cup of alcohol.

Apply to moldy areas to loosen the stains and clean them easily.

Yes see it most weeks.
Insulate cold spots on ceilings in new builds or when you have electrical works done make sure insulation is replaced correctly
