It’s International Women in Engineering Day!
We’re always proud to celebrate our fantastic female team members’ hard work and the role they play in inspiring the next generation of civil engineers.
With this year’s theme of Engineering Intelligence, we’re shining the spotlight on higher degree apprentice Erin Baxter, one of the first women to join the new-look scheme delivered in partnership with Coleg Cambria and Wrexham University.
She said: “I enjoy every aspect of this apprenticeship. I think the block release allows us to focus fully on whatever work is in front of us, be it college/university submissions, or installing concrete structures and coordinating earthworks and material placement.
“There is another female, Katie Dolben, who is on the Quantity Surveying degree, which is fantastic, but the sector as a whole is becoming more and more accessible to women, and I want to help prove that we can be successful.”
Coleg Cambria tutor Matthew Owen added: "Erin has been truly outstanding from the very first day she attended lectures. Her enthusiasm, dedication, and willingness to learn were immediately evident, and she has continued to impress throughout her journey. She consistently demonstrates exceptional core values, a strong work ethic, and a genuine commitment to personal and professional development.
“Erin has embraced every challenge with a positive attitude and has shown remarkable resilience in navigating the demands of this complex industry. Throughout the last block in particular, Erin has displayed excellent time management skills and demonstrated a very high level of emotional intelligence. Her professionalism, maturity, and ability to work effectively with others make her a valued member of any team.
“Erin’s growth and development have been a pleasure to witness. She has all the qualities needed for a successful and rewarding career, and I have every confidence that she will make a significant positive impact wherever her career takes her.
“Without question, Erin has an incredibly bright future ahead of her, and our industry will be fortunate to have someone of her calibre contributing to its success."
