⚡️🪛 CALL OUT 🪛⚡️
We were called out to a holiday let property this evening after guests reported a loss of power, despite nothing appearing to have tripped.
After carrying out a few quick tests, it became clear that the main supply fuse had blown, so we immediately contacted SSE to attend and replace it.
Further investigation revealed the property had THREE 9.5kW electric showers installed on a 63A supply fuse. Simply running two showers at the same time was enough to overload the supply and blow the main fuse.
What makes this even more concerning is that the property appears to have been fully rewired within the last year. Unfortunately, it’s clear that very little consideration was given to the overall electrical design, with some very basic principles overlooked.
This has now caused unnecessary disruption and stress for the guests, management company, and property owners, a situation that should never have happened and something that will need to be addressed.
Proper electrical design is absolutely essential, especially in high-demand properties such as holiday lets. Always make sure your electrician is properly qualified, experienced, and reputable. Good advice and correct design at the start can prevent major problems later on.
