“My word is my bond.”
I went out to look at a job recently; can you take out the mortar in our patio (20m x 4m), you can use our tools, it comes out easily. . . .
So I go and look (as requested - on a Saturday), the injured husband is golfing
I talk through a plan of attack, explaining why, state that I will use my own power tools as those are not sufficient and that realistically it will take me two man days of effort (which I might as it is hard physical on your knees constantly) split over three days, but charge for 16hrs.
When can you do it? Well weather dependant and I have other commitments, but with the next fortnight it will be done. “I will speak to my husband and confirm”
“Agreed, please let us know when you can start”
So weather looking good for Wed/Thu this week and so I send the message in photo 6 and the reply is staggering!!
I am fortunate, part-time and underpinned by my Pensions, but late cancellations like cost two days loss of income and is really not good!!
Thanks “Lisa”, don’t ask again will you?
This was my reply to her, which I like to think is fair, I don’t ask much, but a little respect is always appreciated:
“I have never gone to a customers to work and suddenly thought; perhaps I’ll mow the lawn and trim the hedges first?
I certainly never start any job without first clarifying the requirements with the customer. . . .
Yes; you should have
1. Asked me when I was thinking of starting (we had agreed a window for this
2. Rang me with notice that you were going to break our “agreement”
Pause and have a think of this was reversed on you??
Really not impressed. . . .
