Electrical Underfloor Heating

Our Fowey project is taking shape and we’ve been back to install the underfloor heating in four bathrooms.

We’ve supplied and installed a decoupling mat which has anti-crack protection built in which is ideal for wooden floors where slight movements could cause tiles to fracture or crack. These mats are designed with studs to securely hold heating cables, ensuring even heat distribution while protecting the tiles from thermal expansion.

All these rooms will be independently controlled with smart-stats, giving the clients the ability to control the heating in each room from an app.

Red Lighting in Cow Shed 🚨🐄

We’ve just completed this installation of lighting on a dairy farm. We’ve installed white and red LED fittings with a smart timer which tracks sunrise and sunset along with manual override switches giving maximum control for the farmer.

Key Benefits of Red Light for Cows

• Maintains Natural Rhythms: Because cows have limited perception of red light, they treat it as darkness, meaning their hormone production and melatonin levels are not disrupted, which is vital for maintaining high milk yields.

• Improved Night Observations: Farmers can safely perform tasks like checking for calving, heat detection, or health inspections without turning on bright, disruptive white lights.

• Supports Long-Day Photoperiods: In winter,
16 hours of white light are often followed by 8 hours of darkness. Red light is used during the “dark" phase to manage the herd without breaking the required dark cycle.

• Reduces Stress: Red light acts as a calmer, safer way to monitor animals without waking
or startling them, supporting better animal welfare.

Another farm receiving an overdue upgrade🐄

We were called to this farm as issues started to arise with the original electrical installation which dated back to the 1970’s. The main problem was the incorrect earthing system used on the whole installation, the total lack of any RCD protection and many other non-conformities. The original installation was definitely past its sell by date so it was time for an upgrade. First of all we installed an earthing disc, a big conductive plate in the ground to provide adequate earthing for the whole farm. From there we installed new IP rated (water proof) enclosures and IP rated distribution boards as some of the farm building had water ingress through the roofs. We’ve purposely installed larger distribution boards to be able to add further circuits in the future.

Second fix completed⚡️

We’ve recently completed the 2nd fix on this small annex. This job included a new overhead supply using Ultra EV cable to supply electric and data to the building in one cable. The usual lighting and power has been installed along with electric underfloor heatmat controlled via a smart controller. This allows the owner to control the heating from anywhere in the world.
