A few weeks ago our Associate Architect, Kate Wotton, had the pleasure of visiting Oldway Primary School as part of the Build Torbay Paignton Picture House Challenge.

The enthusiasm and curiosity from the pupils were truly inspiring. Through engaging discussions about architecture, construction, sustainability, adaptive reuse and the importance of creating flexible, multi-purpose spaces, the children demonstrated a genuine interest in shaping the future of the built environment.

Initiatives like this highlight the value of connecting industry professionals with young people, helping to raise aspirations, broaden understanding of career opportunities and encourage the next generation of designers, builders and problem-solvers.

As a practice, we are proud to support social value initiatives across Torbay that invest in local communities and inspire future talent. A special thank you to Lucy Lewis for masterminding and delivering such a fantastic programme.

If the passion, creativity and thoughtful questions shared during the session are anything to go by, the future of our built environment is in very capable hands.

Recently we gave our RIBA mentoring students from Falmouth University and University of Plymouth a tour of the Basset Community Hub site.

Phase 1 of the scheme is nearing completion with the restoration of the White House roof now concluding. Phase 2 will soon commence, featuring a new-build atrium that will connect the Basset Centre and White House together.

Using our VR headset, we were able to show the students the project’s end vision while on site, as well as talk them through some of the technical challenges involved in working with two listed buildings.

It was a great opportunity to share knowledge, discuss conservation and construction in practice, and support the next generation entering the profession.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing introductions to some of the newest faces at Poynton Bradbury. This week, we’re pleased to introduce George.

George joined the practice in 2026, returning to his home county after completing his studies and qualification as an architect in Bath.

He brings a broad range of experience across urban design, landscape and architectural practices, shaping a holistic and context-responsive approach to design.

George is passionate about creating spaces that foster a sense of ownership and belonging, with designs that respond carefully to their setting. He is also a strong advocate for sustainable construction, natural materials and energy-conscious detailing, believing architecture has an important role to play in addressing both the climate emergency and biodiversity crisis.

We’re delighted to have George as part of the team and look forward to the fresh ideas and sustainable perspective he will bring to our projects.

Welcome to the team, George!
