At MCC Surfacing & Groundworks, we genuinely value every single member of our team. Everyone plays an important role in what we do, but this quarter we'd like to give special recognition to Simon Brooks

Simon is one of those people every business hopes to have on their team. He turns up every day ready to get stuck in, works hard regardless of the role he's given, and uses his own initiative to get the job done without needing to be asked.

His attendance is exceptional – he never has a day off, is always on time, and is even happy to work Saturdays when needed. His commitment, reliability and work ethic don't go unnoticed, and he's a credit to MCC Surfacing & Groundworks.

One thing I've learned working in the surfacing industry is that the final phase of a development is where reputations are made.

Do you know why so many main roads are surfaced with HRA and pre-coated chippings? 🤔

It’s not just about how it looks...

Hot Rolled Asphalt (HRA) is one of the most durable surfacing materials available, making it ideal for busy roads carrying heavy traffic. The pre-coated chippings are rolled into the hot asphalt to create a high-skid resistance surface, giving tyres greater grip—particularly in wet conditions and in areas where vehicles are braking, turning or accelerating.

Better skid resistance helps reduce stopping distances and lowers the risk of vehicles losing traction, which is why HRA is commonly used on approaches to roundabouts, junctions, pedestrian crossings and other high-risk sections of the highway.
