Unfortunately, not every tree can be saved.

Here are a few snippets from the removal of this mature lime tree after it was found to have significant root decay. Following inspection, an application was submitted to Cheshire East Council, and permission was granted for the tree to be removed due to the risk it posed.

Once approval was received, our team carried out the dismantle safely and efficiently, using the appropriate equipment and techniques to ensure the work was completed with minimal disruption while protecting the surrounding area.

At JEC Tree Services Ltd, we’re always committed to preserving trees wherever possible, but when defects compromise a tree’s structural integrity and public safety, removal is sometimes the only responsible option.

June has certainly kept us on our toes! ☀️🌳

From early starts to long, hot days, we’ve had a fantastic month working across Cheshire and beyond. Whether it’s large tree removals, precision pruning, commercial contracts, garden transformations, or emergency call-outs, it’s been another busy month for the team.

Along the way we’ve enjoyed some incredible views, tackled some challenging jobs, and visited some amazing locations. Every project is different, and we’re grateful to all of our domestic and commercial clients for trusting us with their trees.

🌳 Mature Lime Tree Removal – Sandbach School 🌳

Today, our team carried out the removal of a mature lime tree at Sandbach School after concerns were raised during a recent tree survey. The tree had been identified as exhibiting signs of slime flux along with a noticeable decline in crown density on one side, indicating deteriorating health and structural concerns.

Following the submission of an application to Cheshire East, the Tree Officer reviewed the findings and agreed that removal was the most appropriate course of action.

Working within an active school environment, our priority was to complete the work safely and efficiently with minimal disruption to staff, pupils and the surrounding area. Due to the tree’s location over outbuildings, the dismantling process was carried out using advanced rigging techniques, allowing sections to be carefully lowered in a controlled manner with no damage to nearby structures.

A great effort from the team to safely remove the tree while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and site safety.

Here’s an example of a general garden tidy-up we recently completed for a client who had just moved into their new property. Over the years the garden had become a little bit of a jungle, making it difficult to see its true potential.

Here’s a recent willow tree removal we carried out after the tree outgrew its space and started damaging a retaining wall and lifting parts of the driveway.

While it’s always unfortunate to remove a mature tree, safety and preventing further damage had to come first. Our team removed the tree safely and efficiently with minimal disruption.

Here’s a great example of a 2m selective crown reduction, crown lift and crown clean carried out on this mature lime tree, all completed under TPO restrictions.

The aim with this work was to carefully reduce the overall size while maintaining the tree’s natural shape, alongside lifting the canopy and removing dead and congested growth. This has created a lighter, more open crown, improving both aesthetics and allowing more natural light through the area.

All works were carried out in line with approved specifications and to British Standards, ensuring the long-term health and integrity of the tree are maintained.

Another tidy result, done safely and professionally — the JEC way.

With restricted access and wet ground conditions, it was important to approach the job the right way. By utilising our smaller 4x4 truck, we were able to access the site across the grass without causing any damage — protecting the lawn while still getting the job done efficiently.

Here’s a great example of two reductions we’ve carried out recently 🌳

Both trees had become slightly overextended, so we reduced the crown spread and brought everything back into a more balanced, manageable shape. Alongside the reductions, we carried out full crown cleans—removing epicormic growth and deadwood to open the canopy up and improve overall tree health and structure.

We also removed the basal ivy from both trees. This will naturally kill off the remaining ivy, making it far easier to manage and remove in the future without causing unnecessary stress to the tree.

A cleaner, safer and more aesthetically pleasing finish all round—done the JEC way.
