One of the small details that makes a big difference in a quality silicone render installation is the use of a diamond float when embedding the mesh into the base coat.

We always ensure the reinforcing mesh sits within the top third of the base coat layer, as specified by system manufacturers. Using a diamond float helps us achieve an even embedment depth, keeping the mesh where it needs to be for maximum strength and crack resistance.

It's the attention to these details that helps create a durable render system built to last for years to come.

Diamond float vs sponge float – which do you prefer? 🤔

For us, a diamond float is the go-to when embedding mesh into the base coat. It helps keep the mesh in the top third of the layer while maintaining a consistent thickness across the surface.

A sponge float definitely has its place, especially for closing in and tidying up the surface, but we find the diamond float gives us better control when it comes to mesh embedment and achieving a flat, even base ready for primer and top coat.
There's more than one way to get a good result, but this is the method that works best for us.

Expansion beads might seem like a small detail, but they're a vital part of any quality render system.

They help accommodate movement within the building and render system, reducing the risk of cracking and helping the finish perform as it should for years to come.

Just as important is keeping them clean. A properly cleaned expansion bead not only looks far better but ensures the joint can do its job effectively. It's these little details that separate an average finish from a professional one.
