Recently completed | Thatched Cottage, Dorset

We’re delighted to share this recently completed extension and comprehensive refurbishment of a traditional thatched cottage in Dorset.

Working closely with our clients, we developed a sensitive design that respects the character and heritage of the original cottage whilst creating a light, practical and contemporary family home.

Located within a Conservation Area, the project required a carefully considered approach to secure planning approval. The completed scheme includes both ground and first-floor extensions, together with the extensive refurbishment and reorganisation of the existing cottage.

The design deliberately combines traditional materials, craftsmanship and retained historic features with contemporary interventions. Exposed oak structure, existing brickwork and the characterful thatched roof sit alongside generous glazing, rooflights and clean modern detailing, bringing natural light deep into the house and strengthening the connection with the garden.

A series of recent Quinquennial Inspections

We are proud to work with a variety of churches across Dorset and Wiltshire, inspecting the church fabric from roofs, stonework and windows, to interiors, fixtures and external features. The quinquennial inspections help identify repair and maintenance needs to help protect these important community places for generations to come.

A thoughtful conversion of redundant farm buildings within a listed setting, where original character has been carefully preserved.

Original buildings were retained wherever possible, with alterations kept to a minimum. The new accommodation combines office and residential use, connected by an oak-framed glazed link that creates a light filled circulation space between rooms. Stone finishes were retained where possible, enhanced by new stone and timber flooring with under-floor heating.

Externally, concrete paving with exposed aggregate maintains the agricultural aesthetic, while cobbles and planted borders soften the development into the landscape.

Longburton Barns | Dorset

A carefully considered conversion and redevelopment brings together traditional Dorset agricultural architecture with contemporary living.

Working alongside Stonecombe Properties, we provided architectural and town planning services for this exclusive courtyard development of five bespoke homes. The scheme carefully retains the character of the original barns through the use of locally sourced natural stone, sympathetic brick detailing and high performance double glazed joinery, creating homes that respect their rural setting while meeting modern standards of comfort and energy efficiency.

The attractive gravel courtyard, enclosed by traditional stone walls and complemented by oak framed carports provides a high quality shared space that reflects the heritage of the site and has been finished to an exceptional standard.

We are delighted to have helped bring this development to fruition!

The final remaining home is now available through Jackson-Stops Sherborne

Celebrating 1 Year of PWCR Devon 🎉

What a fantastic first year it’s been at our Devon office! Over the past 12 months, we’ve been proud to be commissioned on some exciting projects, connect with the community at the local village fayre, and even lend a hand by hauling some hardcore for the local pre-school 💪

We’ve also loved settling into our new surroundings and becoming part of such a welcoming community.

A huge thank you to everyone who’s supported us along the way — here’s to many more great years ahead!
