To plant a bulb is to be an optimist! Never more apt than now! No winter lasts forever and those little brown balls will develop emerging green shoots, leading to a magnificent explosion of colour and scent in spring. Have you planted any indoor bulbs yet? There is still time!

Narcissus 'Paperwhite' is perfect for forcing indoors at this time of year. The multi headed, pure white flowers fill the air with a deep honey fragrance.

Another classic is Hyacinth 'Aiolos', which produces white floriferous spikes with a heady scent, filling the room with its amazing aroma.

They can both be planted 'soil-less' by using gravel or pebbles instead, leaving the tops of the bulbs exposed. Choose a glass vase or decorative bowl topped with florists moss to create a chic centre piece for your coffee or dining table.

Allium 'Purple Sensation' looking striking in our RHS Chatsworth show garden from 2017. Their characteristic globe shape contrasts so well with the elegant spires of Lupin and Salvia.
Our signature Bestall Collection Allium blend provides a succession of purple drumsticks from May to August starting with A.'Purple Sensation', moving to A.cristophii (June-July) which is shorter, paler lilac in colour and has a profusion of starry flowers, finished with the rich crimson A.sphaerocephalon, which has a smaller, slightly pointed head. All equally magnificent, super long lived, adding so much visual joy to the garden and great for pollinators! What's not to love?
