Side by side comparison from a test panel showing the difference our DOFF cleaning system can make.

Using high-temperature steam rather than force or abrasives, we’re able to carefully remove layers of modern plastic paint from historic brickwork while protecting the original fabric beneath.

Once these non-breathable coatings are removed, the brickwork can finally start to breathe again as intended.
Traditional buildings need traditional materials and methods.

Just finished off this beautiful Grade II listed former church conversion. Originally renovated into a home back in the 90s, the building had sadly been pointed using inappropriate modern materials over the years.

We’ve carefully restored the masonry using a traditional hot lime mortar, allowing the building to breathe as intended while protecting the historic stonework for years to come. Damaged stones were also replaced by a skilled local stonemason to match the original character of the church.

Let the past build the future.

Completed the final coat of h**p lime plaster on this beautiful barn conversion.

Like many historic buildings, it had previously been renovated using modern materials such as gypsum plaster and tanking systems, which can trap moisture within solid walls. We’ve been carefully removing those inappropriate materials and restoring the building using breathable h**p lime plaster more suited to a traditional structure.

Now the plastering is complete and ready for its final limewash finish. Great to see this old barn slowly being brought back to life using natural, breathable materials.

Another restoration job completed. We’ve just removed layers of modern plastic paint from this 1800s gate post using the DOFF cleaning system.

Unlike harsh blasting methods, the DOFF machine uses high-temperature steam to carefully lift paint and contaminants away without damaging the original stone beneath.

Traditional methods for a sustainable future.

Just finished the devil coat of plaster on this barn conversion

Originally built in the 1700s, this building had been covered in modern materials like gypsum — trapping moisture and working against the structure rather than with it. We’ve been carefully removing those inappropriate materials and bringing the building back to how it should breathe.

One more coat of h**p lime plaster to go, and this place will be well on its way to a healthy, sustainable finish

Finished off this insulating lime render

A brilliant way to improve comfort in older homes — helping keep things warm through the winter and cool during the summer months, all while allowing the building to breathe as it should.

Using natural materials, this system works with the building rather than against it, improving efficiency without trapping moisture.

Base coat completed on this barn conversion

This project was originally done using modern materials, which just aren’t suited to how these old buildings need to breathe. We’re now slowly stripping back the inappropriate cement and restoring the walls the right way — using traditional lime plaster.

Lime allows moisture to move naturally through the building, helping to protect the structure and improve the overall health of the space.

Before & after from one of our recent projects

At some point in the building’s life, inappropriate cement mortar had been introduced, trapping moisture and starting to cause damage to the stonework.

We carefully removed the cement mortar and repointed using a traditional hot lime mortar, allowing the building to breathe properly again and release moisture naturally.

The result not only looks far more in keeping with the property, but will also help protect it for years to come.

If your property has been pointed with cement and is showing signs of damp, cracking, or decay, feel free to get in touch

Base coat complete on this project in Sheffield.

Originally, this brickwork had been damaged by hard sand and cement render, trapping moisture and accelerating decay. Our approach doesn’t just cover it up — it restores the building’s ability to breathe and perform as it should.

What we really love about this stage is the environmental side of it. We’re using natural, low-impact materials that work with the building, not against it. Lime is far less energy-intensive to produce than cement and even reabsorbs CO₂ as it cures. We also incorporate recycled and natural materials, helping reduce waste while supporting sustainable, traditional practices.

On top of that, these materials improve insulation in a breathable way — keeping homes warmer in winter, cooler in summer, and healthier to live in overall.
Better for the building, better for the environment.
