Today I visited a client to sort a severe clothes moths infestation out. The moths or more precisely their larvae had eaten patches of the wool carpet bare in places. The fact it was wool is vitally important as moth larvae only feed on natural fibres such as wool, fur, feather etc..a multi method treatment was carried to successfully eradicate the adult moths, larvae and eggs. I always find it fascinating that something so small can cause so much damage!.

The attached video is a bumble bee nest I came across when clearing some rubbish. Please, please share this far and wide. It shows just how docile and unlikely to sting bumblebees are. Facebook groups seem full of people at the moment wanting to get rid of them and its completely unnecessary. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON AT ALL ANYONE SHOULD KILL BUMBLEBEES, occasionally they unfortunately need relocating but never destroying. Thank you.

The wasp season is now getting underway..Here's one that we removed from under a child's climbing frame today. Its awful to think what could've happened had the homeowner not found this before kids had started playing on it. Should you suspect you have a wasp nest please contact me on here or by calling 07714794755 for a fast professional service.

Why do rodents have such sharp teeth and how do they keep them so sharp ?. Rodents teeth are continually growing in just the same way as our finger nails. They have evolved in such an amazing way that by gnawing at objects they sharpen them, here's how they work. The orange colour on the front of rodents teeth is not staining but an iron rich enamel which is incredibly strong. The rear of the teeth are a softer white Dentin. This means the action of chewing wears the rear of the tooth down faster keeping a sharp chisel like point on the top of the tooth. Below is a picture of a rodent, in this case a Grey Squirrel which are classified as rodents that shows clearly the points mentioned above. So if youve ever wondered how rodents manage to cause such destruction thats why.

People are often surprised to learn just how few live rats I see day to day through my work. Today however was an exception to the rule. I had been called because of increased sightings of rats at this location, my first thought on attending any job is "why, what when", why are they there, what is attracting them to the area and how long's it been going on. In this case the "why" was obvious immediately. Rats had chewed the bin lid and could now access the food waste within, however when I arrived the bin had been emptied and the drainage b**g was unsually still in place ( they regularly go missing). This meant that unfortunately any rats that dropped in couldnt now get out. Ive no idea how long the poor rat had been stuck in there getting stressed and dehydrated but I quickly ended its suffering. A recommendation was left with the client to replace the damaged bin and I deployed control methods on line with current legislation/ guidelines for external baiting.

Over the last few weeks queen wasps have been feeding up after their long winter sleep. They are now starting to build their nests, these are very small at first but as the queen lays more eggs and they hatch out the nest construction accelerates, sometimes at a quite dramatic rate. The video shows the very early stage of wasps nest that the queen's built. If left in situ in a location like this it can quickly become quite dangerous. Please dont hesitate to contact me should you find a nest, we will deal with it promptly and professionally whilst been fully guaranteed

Its the time of year where garden ants are becoming increasingly active. One of the ways ants find food is by random scouting, however once a food item is found the ant thats found the food item will run back to its nest releasing a pheromone trail, its this trail ants are following when you see them all following the same line. With this in mind if you see them in your home exhibiting this behaviour, the quickest way to stop it is wipe across where they are walking with warm soapy water. Wiping the area removes the pheromone trail anc will make the ants disperse. Hygiene is of upmost importance when it comes to controlling ants, they will find the smallest crumbs of food so again wiping down and thoroughly vacuuming removes any source of attraction for them. The attached picture is of a sweet I deliberately dropped on a patio with no ants in sight, within just over a minute ants had found it. The above measures obviously only offer a temporary control until a professional can get to you to put a long term control in place. The control measures we at Quick Pest Management use are a combination of insecticidal spray and ant bait stations. Please dont hesitate to get in touch with me should you have any issues with ants.

We all want to help birds and make our gardens or outdoor spaces a place where all wildlife can thrive. But some species, such as Greenfinches, are experiencing serious declines because of disease.
