A home designed around connection.

By carefully working within the permitted development rules for larger home extensions, we were able to maximise the potential of the site and design a generous new space for our clients to gather as a family.

The brief was to create a bright, sociable space with a strong connection to the garden and views towards the park beyond.

We achieved this by incorporating the existing rear projection into the new extension, with a dynamic zigzag roof form that adds height, character and a sense of openness. Glazing to the new gable brings natural light deep into the home and frames views of the nature beyond.

The project has received confirmation that prior approval is not required, allowing us to move forward with the technical design and bringing us one step closer to realising our clients’ vision for their home.

Every family deserves a home that grows with them.

This dated two-bedroom bungalow had plenty of potential, but it no longer worked for our clients and their two young boys.

Through three carefully designed extensions and a complete internal remodel, we transformed it into a light-filled four-bedroom family home with generous, connected living spaces that open onto the garden. We created space for entertaining, and for the happy chaos of everyday family life.

Externally, timber shingle cladding, crisp white render and an oak-framed porch give the bungalow a warm, welcoming character with a contemporary feel.

Every project begins by understanding how our clients want to live. The design follows from there.

Your home should be your happy place.

This is my own kitchen, designed as part of the renovation of our home in Sheffield. Every day I walk into this space, it makes me smile.

What makes a happy home is different for everyone. For us, it was about creating warm, welcoming spaces that feel connected to nature and filled with natural light.

Like many of my clients, the kitchen is the heart of our home. It’s where we cook, eat, do homework, entertain friends and spend time together. Getting it right for the way we live really mattered.

That’s the idea behind Happy Architects.

I believe great home design begins with understanding the people who live there. How they want to live, what’s important to them, and what will make them happier at home. It’s a philosophy I bring to every new project.

Hello! I'm Kate, founder of Happy Architects.

After more than 17 years in residential architecture, I started Happy Architects with a simple belief: your home should be your happy place.

Whether you're planning an extension, remodelling your home or dreaming of a new-build, I’d love to help you bring your ideas to life through thoughtful, personal design.

Having redesigned my own home in Sheffield, I understand just how exciting, and sometimes overwhelming, the process can feel. My aim is to make the journey as straightforward and enjoyable as possible, while creating a home that's designed around you and the way you want to live.
