RHS Tatton Park Flower Show success 🌟🌱

Following on from successes at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Show earlier this summer, two teams of University of Sheffield students have produced great work at the RHS Tatton Park flower show.

Second year Landscape Architecture student Olivia Copley has won a Silver-Gilt medal for her long border garden ‘Small Actions, Big Impact’ at the show. Her design demonstrates the vital importance of front gardens to boost biodiversity, create green corridors and improve wellbeing. The design is filled with delightful, harmonious and airy ornamental planting, with edible plants close
at hand to be picked from the doorstep. Huge congratulations to her for this feat of organisation and creativity.

Next to Olivia’s garden at the show was a long border by a team of Sheffield Architecture and Landscape Architecture alumni. Led by Joel Loader and Sam Dryell, these two grew their passion and knowledge of plants and design at Sheffield, and their superb design also won a silver-gilt medal. Their border focused on sustainability, low maintenance and climate change, using recycled and repurposed waste materials to transform hard surfaces into a bright, climate-resilient design capable of managing intense rainfall, with a vibrant tapestry of drought tolerant planting. Many congratulations to Sam and Joel for all this hard work and attention
to detail.

🥇RHS Gold medal and Best Resilient Pocket 🌱
Congratulations to Sheffield Landscape students Saachi Parasrampuria, Marko Yau and James Miller who won gold at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival 2024.

'Winds of Change' is a Resilient Pocket planting inspired by Jaywick Sands on the north Essex coast. It uses wind, salt and drought tolerant plants growing in locally sourced crushed waste aggregate, and beach debris.

🥈RHS Silver medal 🌷
Congratulations to Sheffield Landscape Masters students Xun Xie, Jingwen Liu, Andrew Mc Master and Awika Butnark.

'Beautifully Stressed' is a Resilient Pocket Planting inspired by species able to thrive in arid brownfield sites.

Both these inspiring examples explore the challenges of planting in a changing climate and challenging soil conditions. Well done to our talented students who have put in an enormous amount of dedication and hard work, from initial application through to the final build.
