An old one but a good one!
When a large dairy farm in Pembrokeshire faced a serious challenge with a leaking slurry lagoon, the stakes were high, both environmentally and structurally.
GOWN Engineers were brought in to design a remediation solution for a 20,000m³ lagoon that had begun contaminating a nearby river. While the leak itself was relatively small, it raised critical concerns around bund stability and long-term performance.
Our approach focused on:
✔️ Targeted earthworks to stabilise the lagoon bund with minimal intervention
✔️ Installation of a cut-off system to control seepage
✔️ Monitoring drainage to verify performance over time
✔️ Reuse of on-site materials to maximise sustainability and reduce environmental impact
By combining slope stability expertise with practical, efficient design, we delivered a solution that safeguarded both the farm’s operations and the surrounding environment.
A great example of how thoughtful engineering can turn a potential environmental risk into a resilient, sustainable outcome.
