📢 SFI26 - Good news if your agri-environment agreement is expiring soon

If you are currently in an SFI23, Countryside Stewardship Mid & Higher Tier or HLS agreement that's coming to an end, Defra have confirmed they're building functionality to let you apply for SFI26 before your existing agreement expires — avoiding any gap in payments. This should be ready for Window 2 in September 2026. With £240 million available, it's worth making sure you're in the best position before you apply.

📢 SFI26 scheme information is now available!

Defra has today published the scheme information for the Sustainable Farming Incentive 2026 (SFI26), ahead of the first application window opening on 30th June.

Key dates to know:
📅 Window 1 opens 30 June – for small farms and those without an existing ELMs revenue agreement
📅 Window 2 opens September 2026 – open to all farmers and land managers

The SFI26 offer builds on the 2024 scheme with improvements to simplify and streamline the process. Actions covering soil health, water quality, nature recovery and farm resilience are all available – including options to help reduce reliance on artificial fertilisers.

Final scheme information is expected around mid-June, before applications open.

Guidance for the Farming Equipment & Technology Fund 2026 (FETF) is now live with applications opening 17 March and closing late April.

Grants are available across three themes:
🌱 Farm productivity 🐄 Animal health & welfare 💧 Slurry management

Applications can cover items across multiple themes, with a combined grant cap of £75,000. The percentage of costs covered varies depending on the item selected.

⏰The RPA have confirmed that this is the final round of FETF before changes are made to grant schemes in 2027.

We would recommend having a look at the full guidance in advance of the window opening as there isn’t long to get applications in!

The Government has now published the Information Sheet that must be sent to all existing residential tenants by 31st May 2026.
