There’s nothing quite like trading the pipe wrench for a hammer and saw over the weekend! 🪚 Swipe to check out my latest personal project: a complete custom garden shed build ➡️

This was a proper family project, and let me tell you, it was a labour of love. The goal was to keep it strictly on a budget without compromising on the high-quality finish I always aim for.

We built the entire timber framing from scratch, cladded the space, and hand-built all the doors myself. To wrap it up, we installed proper double glazing to keep it warm and usable all year round.

It’s amazing what you can achieve with some solid teamwork (Poppy) and a bit of patience.

Pro Tip: You don't need to spend a fortune to get premium results. It just takes a bit more precision, time, and the right hands on deck.

I tackled two complete showers, handling everything from the first fix pipework to the second fix finishes. Plus, I poured a perfectly flat self-levelled floor before laying down the final tiles.

I also fitted out a compact kitchen and toilet area, complete with sleek new units and fresh tiling to maximise the space. Going from bare studs and exposed pipes to a clean, modern finish is exactly why I love this job.

Ever hopped in the shower only to be met with a sad, pathetic trickle? 🚿 A sudden drop in water pressure is incredibly frustrating, but before you panic, here is my exact checklist on what to do if your water pressure suddenly drops:

Check Your Main Stopcock: Usually under the kitchen sink. Has it been bumped or partially closed lately? Make sure it's fully open

Ask Your Neighbours: Is it just you or the whole street? If everyone has low pressure, it’s a water main issue or a local burst pipe. Call your water provider, not a plumber!

Inspect Your Boiler Gauge: If it's only the hot water running slow, check your combi-boiler. If the needle is below 1 bar, your central heating system needs a quick top-up. (refer to your boiler manual for more information)

Pro Tip: If your pressure drops and you spot a random damp patch on a wall or ceiling, turn off your main water valve immediately. That’s a hidden leak!

When you step up to larger commercial heating projects, your room for error shrinks to zero. A bad layout or a kinked pipe doesn't just mean a quick fix... it means ripping up tonnes of screed and bleeding profit. 📉

On a job this size, pressure testing before the pour is your absolute insurance policy. I always run a rigorous test on the manifolds to make sure everything is 100% airtight. If another trade nicks a pipe while you're off-site, that pressure gauge is your proof

Perfect pipe spacing ensures even heat distribution, prevents cold spots and keeps the commercial boilers running at peak efficiency

My Top Tips for Tradies Tackling Commercial UFH
💡 Keep Loops Consistent: If one loop is wildly longer than the rest, balancing the manifold becomes a total nightmare
💡 Protect Your Manifold: Sites are busy. Box it off early so other trades don't knock your flow meters
💡 Take Photos: Document the entire grid layout before the screed goes down. You’ll thank yourself later if someone needs to drill into the floor!

The Golden Rule: Spend the extra time on your floor prep. A neat job is an efficient job, and efficiency equals profit.

The joys of property maintenance 🤯 Swipe to see a classic case of "looks great, but how on earth do we fix it?" ➡️

I got called out for a simple toilet repair, but there was a massive catch. The previous installer had tiled over everything. There was absolutely zero access to the hidden cistern or the working parts inside the wall 🤦‍♂️

To get it flushing again, I had to carefully remove everything, fix the leak, and piece it all back together as neatly as humanly possible.

I strongly advised the landlord to let me install an access panel to future-proof the bathroom, but they opted for the quick fix to save cash. While it’s not how I prefer to leave a job long-term, the customer is the boss, and the toilet is working perfectly again! 🛠️

My Top Tip for Landlords & Homeowners 🚽
Never tile yourself into a corner: concealed plumbing looks sleek, but valves will need replacing eventually. Always leave an access point!

Before you renovate: Always ask your plumber, "How do we fix this if it breaks?" It'll save you thousands down the line 💰

Ouch. Imagine finishing a 3-week renovation, the downstairs bathroom is 100% complete with fresh paint, and then the chippy nails the skirting… straight through a pipe. 🔨🫣

Hidden leaks are sneaky, but catching them early saves you thousands in property damage. Here are my top 3 signs you have a hidden water leak:

1. Low Water Pressure: If your shower suddenly feels like a sad trickle, water is likely escaping somewhere it shouldn't.

2. Damp Smells or Blistering Paint: If a wall feels warm, looks damp, or smells musty, that's a major red flag.

3. The Meter Test: Turn off all your taps. If your water meter is still spinning, you’ve got a leak.

Pro Tip: Don't wait until Monday if you suspect a leak. Trust your gut (and your nose)!

There is nothing more satisfying than completely changing a bathroom layout to make it actually work for a space! 🙌

For this project, the goal was all about layout and lighting. After a full rip-out, the real game-changer was rerouting the plumbing to move the basin from one wall to the other to open up the room🔧

Lighting completely changes the vibe, so we ditched the old pendant light for sleek LED downlights and added a stunning back-lit LED mirror

And of course, I treat your home like my own. Heavy-duty floor protection was laid down from day one to keep the house spotless while I did the heavy lifting 🥾

Hey everyone 👋 I wanted to share the story behind the name Poppy’s Plumbing and introduce you to the real boss 🐾

The biggest inspiration is my dog, Poppy. She is basically my kid! Back when I lived in Cornwall, she completely stole the spotlight. Customers would always remember my cute dog but totally forget my name. It became a running joke that I was just "the plumber with the cute dog", so when I started the business, the name was a no-brainer 😂

But the name actually runs a bit deeper. As an ex-serviceman, the poppy flower holds a massive place in my heart. It also happens to be my mum’s absolute favourite flower. Everything just aligned perfectly 🌺

While the logo represents my service background and my mum, Poppy the dog is definitely the chief supervisor around here.

Fun Fact: Poppy still thinks she’s qualified to inspect my plumbing services and pipework.
