Let’s talk about storms and why Envirotile is fit to take on the worst of British Winter weather.
As we all know, it has been getting more windy, more often. It seems Climate Change is catching up with us and is resulting in more extreme weather events being experienced in the UK. In fact, such is the increased tempo of storms, we are now following the Americans by naming each of them. The UK Climate Projections report (UKCP18, Lowe et al., 2018) stated that Winter wind speeds are projected to increase through the rest of this century, accompanied by an increase in the frequency of winter storms. So we can all look forward to a lot more cracked or missing concrete and slate tiles and listening to the din of clattering loose tiles that are gradually working themselves loose.
Whilst Envirotile won’t stop Climate Change, they will stay firmly attached to your roof, courtesy of the patented interlocking design and the “8Fix” fixing system. In layman terms, this means that the combined strength of an entire roof covered with interlocking tiles, where each one is also secured in eight places, makes it considerably less vulnerable to high wind speeds, than traditional overlapping slate that is attached to the roof using only two nails. A roof covered using Envirotile, won’t clatter in strong winds as they are made of recycled plastic, and it’s not going anywhere having been tested to wind speeds of 145 km/h on roof pitches as low as 12.5 degrees.
Most roofers can rely on rich pickings from roofing repairs resulting from Winter storms, as damage is increasingly common and entirely predictable. Watch the share price of the Insurers drop following a major storm in anticipation of the claims that will surely follow. We have been supplying Envirotile for 13 years and during that time we have offered an “8Fix” stormproof guarantee, which means that in the event of any tiles coming off the roof as a result of strong winds and assuming the tiles have been fitted in accordance with our guidance, then we will replace any damaged tiles free of charge. To date, we have had no calls about storm damaged tiles.
Strong storms combined with traditional roof coverings are not a good long term mix. Slate tiles have been in use for hundreds of years by a roofing industry that is extremely resistant to change. However, it’s only a matter of time before Insurance companies force change as they seek to reduce the cost of damage claims by offering reduced premiums for houses that are built using materials that are resistant to extreme weather events. Products such as Envirotile. Likewise, what price do you put on a good night sleep without the constant clattering of tiles.
Cometh the hour, cometh the tile. Envirotile.
