Putting some manganese onto this winter barley. Hope it's not too late as you can see some is showing severe deficiency.
Also there are 2 hybrid varieties from Syngenta Kestrel is looking good and green, Quantock has a real yellow colour. Kestrel is a Barley Yellow Dwarf virus BYDV tolerant variety. Could this greener healthier looking crop mean aphids who spread BYDV won't land and pass the virus?

Well we have been busy this week. Around 600t of fodder beet has been lifted ready for customers and our own cattle followed my numerous deliveries of fresh beet.
We passed our Red Tractor Assurance yearly inspection. Question after question with lots of boxes ticked. You can be assured our produce is still grown to high standards.
Yesterday the fertiliser spreader was tray tested by Joe Fox of SCS to make sure our fertiliser is spread accurately for environmental protection and most importantly that our crops grow evenly over every square meter.
Today, Julia and I attended the Shropshire Chamber of Agriculture AGM and Annual Dinner. Over 130 farmers and associated industry gathered together for a meal with an interesting talk from Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire, Anna Turner. .
I am now the President of the Chamber for the next year with some exciting visits planned.

Planting some winter barley today on this beautiful autumnal day. Direct drilling into some loamy sandy soil. Putting molasses and fish hydraulisate onto the seed as its placed in the soil to give it a good start.
