Thinking about replacing your boiler? It might be worth looking at a heat pump first.

A couple of interesting figures caught our eye recently…

Gas costs are rising again from October, while VAT on electricity is being cut to 0%.

At the same time, heat pump applications have just hit a record high – up 81% in July.

There’s also currently a £7,500 grant towards an eligible heat pump, rising to £9,000 for some off-grid homes using oil or LPG.

Add solar into the mix and it starts to become a really interesting option for homeowners looking at their energy costs long term.

If your boiler is getting towards the end of its life, it’s definitely worth knowing what your options are before simply replacing it like-for-like.

Something we see regularly across solar installations is a range of faults that can affect system performance, generation and, in some cases, safety.

Often, these aren’t major failures that bring the whole system to a stop. They can be smaller issues that go unnoticed and gradually impact performance over time.

It highlights why ongoing Operations & Maintenance (O&M) is such an important part of owning and operating a solar PV system.

A system might be designed to operate for 25–30+ years, but you can’t simply install it and expect it to perform at its best for that entire period without ongoing attention.

Good O&M isn’t just about turning up when something has already failed. It’s about regularly checking how the system is performing, spotting issues early and dealing with them before they develop into bigger problems.

Ultimately, it’s about keeping the system safe, reliable and generating as it should — while protecting the long-term value of the investment.

A lot goes on underground before a ground source heat pump gets switched on!

Groundworks progressing nicely on one of our latest ground source heat pump installations.

This aerial shot shows the digger finishing the ground after receiving the pipework that forms the ground loop system.

It’s great to see the scale of the job from above, and another step closer to getting the system up and running.

More progress to come.

🚜 The digger has arrived and we’re officially underway with another ground source heat pump installation!

There’s a fair bit of digging to do before you start seeing the finished system, but it’ll all be worth it — harnessing energy from the ground to provide efficient, renewable heating for the home.

We’ll share some pictures as this one takes shape.

Regular operations and maintenance (O&M) helps keep solar PV systems operating safely and efficiently. During our inspection of this roof-mounted system, we identified a burnt-out connector, which can reduce performance and present a potential fire risk if left unresolved.
We recommend a professional inspection at least every 12 months. Many solar systems are installed and then forgotten about, but routine servicing helps identify faults before they become costly failures. For commercial systems, documented maintenance may also be required to satisfy insurer or asset management requirements.
