A look back at our office building in 1906.

This was long before ECS Systems was established, but it is interesting to see the history behind the space we work from today.

A lot has changed since then, both inside and out!

Most commercial buildings have a fire alarm system installed. Far fewer know whether that system actually meets current legal requirements.

Do you know:

🔥 Which fire alarm category your building requires?

🔥 Who is legally responsible for compliance?

🔥 How often your system should be tested and maintained?

🔥 Whether your current setup aligns with BS 5839-1?

These are the kinds of gaps that often only come to light during inspections, audits or incidents.

This article breaks down the key legal requirements for commercial fire alarms in the UK and highlights the areas businesses most commonly overlook.

Working within historic environments requires a careful balance between modern safety standards and preservation.

At Herstmonceux Castle, a 15th century listed building, ECS was tasked with delivering a fully compliant fire detection system without compromising the building’s historic fabric.

By specifying a Hyfire wireless system, we were able to minimise intrusive cabling while ensuring reliable coverage throughout the site. Every element of the design and installation was carefully planned to meet both regulatory requirements and heritage restrictions.

The result is a discreet, effective fire alarm system that protects both people and the building itself.

Physical security is often the first and most visible line of defence. Well-designed gates and railings help to deter unauthorised access, define site boundaries and support wider systems such as CCTV and access control.

At ECS, our gates and railings division works closely with clients to deliver solutions that are both secure and practical for everyday use.

If you are reviewing your site security, perimeter protection is a good place to start.

We took part in the football tournament at this month.

Our team recently visited the new UK Experience Centre for an exclusive overnight preview event.

The visit provided a fantastic introduction to Salto UK’s newly launched space, showcasing their investment in a state-of-the-art experience centre designed to bring access control solutions to life. The facility creates a valuable environment for Salto Partners to demonstrate systems to clients first-hand, while also supporting ongoing training, development and closer collaboration between manufacturer and partner network.

Throughout the event, we explored a range of products on display and attended a series of presentations covering the history, growth and future vision of Salto Systems.

We were fortunate to hear from several key figures within the business, including CEO Marc Gomez, Managing Director Ramesh Gurdev and Sales Director Josh Abbott, alongside members of the Salto HQ team from Spain, including Co-Founder and CTIO Marc Handels, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer Aznar Sethna, and Chief Financial Officer Gonzalo Marco.

It was a valuable opportunity to strengthen our partnership with one of the industry’s leading manufacturers while continuing to stay at the forefront of access control innovation for our clients.
