Some of the Swell team are heading down to the Sidmouth Regatta this weekend to enjoy a great line up of events and make the most of the Bank Holiday!

Weโ€™re looking forward to the airplane display โœˆ๏ธ, the Tug of War led by Ascend Training Club ๐Ÿ’ช, the Rotary Raft Race from Sidmouth Rotary Club ๐Ÿšฃ and, of course, the fireworks to finish the weekend off with a bang! ๐ŸŽ†

Itโ€™s always great to get out, enjoy the local community and have a bit of fun outside the office. Weโ€™ll see you there! ๐ŸŒŠ

Whether you're dreaming of a home office, gym, garden room, workshop or even a space to unwind, an outbuilding can be a fantastic way to make the most of your property.

The good news? Many outbuildings can be built under Permitted Development, meaning you may not need to apply for planning permission. (We always recommend getting a certificate in case you were to ever sell your property).

However, there are still rules to follow, including:
โœ”๏ธ The overall height of the building
โœ”๏ธ Its location within your garden
โœ”๏ธ The amount of land it covers
โœ”๏ธ How it will be used (it can't be used as separate living accommodation)

Every property is different, and factors such as listed status, conservation areas or previous planning conditions can affect what's allowed.
If you're unsure whether your project falls under Permitted Development, it's always worth getting advice before you start. A little planning at the beginning can save a lot of time, money and stress later on.

We recently had the pleasure of welcoming Lola to Swell Architecture for a week of work experience, and what a fantastic week it was! ๐Ÿ‘

Rather than just observing, Lola got stuck straight in. She joined us on site visits, experienced what life on a construction site is really like, and spent time in the office learning how an architectural practice operates day to day.

We set Lola her own design project. She measured our office, produced the existing plans, and was then challenged to transform the space into a two-bedroom flat. From sketching out ideas to creating a full 3D model. We're incredibly proud of everything Lola achieved in just one week, so we thought her hard work deserved to be showcased! We think you'll be just as impressed as we were. ๐Ÿ‘

Well done, Lola, and thank you for being such a great member of the team. We wish you every success for the future! ๐Ÿกโœ๏ธ

Project: Single Storey Rear Extension

We're delighted to have secured planning approval for a single storey rear extension on this family home.

The brief was to create a home that works better for everyday family life, with a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining and living area where everyone can come together. The approved design adds a single storey extension to the rear with a striking vaulted open-plan kitchen, dining and living space, flooded with natural light through a large glazed gable and roof-lights.

We can't wait to see this project take shape and watch this family's vision become a reality. ๐Ÿ‘
