SEP Hydrographic

SEP Hydrographic SEP Hydrographic provide a range of high-quality marine surveys.

Multibeam bathymetry, 3D Scanning Sonar, Laser scanning and photogrammetry techniques are combined to provide detailed visualisations of assets, both above and below the waterline.

was called on by a fellow Merseyside business that needed a survey turned around at short notice.

Strong tidal conditions and a busy waterway meant the team had to plan carefully and move quickly; from mobilisation through acquisition to processing, everything was completed and delivered the same day.

๐Ÿ“ธ Early starts are part of the job, and occasionally they look like this.

Working in tidal estuarine environments like the Firth of Forth brings its own set of challenges: strong currents, variable depths, and busy shipping lanes all demand careful planning before a single line is run.

Precise survey data starts long before a vessel arrives on site.

Sister company Survey & Engineering Projects recently performed a thorough laser scan of MV Pulsar using a FARO Focus 150, with multiple scans completed across the vessel to capture the exact position of each sensor relative to the centre of gravity. Those offsets feed directly into our processing pipeline, ensuring every dataset we collect is geometrically consistent and traceable back to a known reference.

It's behind-the-scenes work like this that underpins the accuracy of any data the vessel collects.

๐Ÿ“ธ Close-quarters work in Runcorn, where used the Unipact USV paired with a NORBIT i79h multibeam echosounder to carry out a detailed asset inspection survey.

The compact, autonomous platform was ideal for accessing the confined dock environment, capturing high-resolution data on underwater walls, structures, and the dock bed in areas that a conventional survey vessel simply couldn't reach.

The result is a precise, georeferenced picture of asset condition, giving owners and engineers the information they need to plan maintenance, manage structural risk, and make confident decisions about their infrastructure.

Adding the โœจ Zenmuse L3 โœจ to our aerial survey toolkit.

The DJI Zenmuse L3 combines a next-generation LiDAR module with dual 100 MP RGB mapping cameras in a single payload, giving the team the ability to capture dense point clouds and high-resolution imagery in one pass.

RTK positioning delivers centimetre-level accuracy straight from the aircraft, while rugged weather protection keeps operations on schedule when conditions are less than ideal.

This means faster mobilisation, richer deliverables, and less time reconciling separate datasets.

headed to Thurstaston on the Wirral today for a Big Blue Ocean Cleanup!

Did you know UK beaches average 170 pieces of litter for every 100 metres of coastline? That's roughly one item every 60cm.

Well done to the team for getting stuck in. ๐Ÿ’™
