Big date for your diary: plug-in solar becomes legal across the UK on 27 August 2026! 🔌☀️

These are the small panels that just plug into a normal socket, no electrician needed, so they're perfect for flats, rentals and homes without a suitable roof. Great news for renters and flat owners across Norwich, Lowestoft, Beccles and beyond who've never had a solar option before.

One thing to know: it probably won't change your EPC rating the way a full rooftop system would, so if you're hoping to boost your certificate, give us a shout before you buy and we'll talk you through it.

We've got a new PM this week, Andy Burnham 🏡

He spent 9 years as Mayor of Greater Manchester before this, and retrofit was a big part of his record there. Think grants for landlords tied to EPC improvements, and a target to get thousands of homes net-zero.

So what could this mean for homeowners and landlords here in Norfolk and Suffolk? We've written up what we actually know so far (and what we don't) in our latest blog.

One thing won't change whoever's in Number 10 though: your EPC is still the starting point for grants, loans, or getting your rental compliant. Worth having an up to date one whatever happens in Westminster.

🌞 Big news if you've been eyeing up solar but don't fancy scaffolding on the roof.

The government's just confirmed it's pushing ahead with rules to legalise plug-in solar panels, the kind that connect straight into a normal wall socket. No rewiring, no roof space needed.

Could be a real game changer for flats, terraces and rented homes across Norfolk and Suffolk where rooftop solar just isn't an option.

The ultimate eco-home?

Ever wondered what it actually takes to get an EPC A rating? This Southampton lake house shows you.

Built by Huf Haus, it's got an air source heat pump doing the heavy lifting for heating, solar panels across the roof, triple glazed windows keeping every bit of warmth in, and an EV charging point out front. The result? A perfect A rated EPC, the top spot on the scale.

Here's the reality check though: less than 1% of homes listed on Rightmove even reach an A rating. Most of us are working with older properties, and that's absolutely fine. But it shows what's achievable when insulation, heating and glazing all work together properly.
