One of this week’s jobs was helping out a local tree surgery company with a huge Lime stump 🌳

This one was over 1 metre high and had a serious amount of debris through the epicormic growth, making it a nightmare to reduce with a chainsaw without constantly blunting chains.

Because of the size of the stump, the Jo Beau B37 110 was specifically brought in for this job. It’s built for exactly this sort of work and made light work of reducing the stump from over a metre high.

We started by grinding down from the highest point, working around the stump until we were left with a clean central stem. This could then be cut down safely with the chainsaw before grinding the remaining stump to the required depth.

A handy method that saves time and chains, especially when dealing with a stump this size.

The Jo Beau produced a serious amount of mulch on this one, which was cleared and disposed of by the tree surgery company.

Not every stump is an easy one 🌳

This large twin stemmed Thuja plicata stump was for a local developer and had to be ground out ready for a concrete pour the next day.

The concrete kerbs had already been removed, but we still had to work right up to a steel rebar box and the existing concrete. Took a bit of care, but we got it down to the required depth with no issues.

The Jo Beau B37 110 was the machine for the job. For its size it’s got some serious power and just chewed through this stump.

Because we were so close to the rebar and concrete, I used the grinder in manual mode rather than auto, just to give myself that extra control.

Last photos show the finished result. Stump gone and ready for concrete.

🌲 Cedar stump removal – Charmouth

This large Cedar stump measured around 6ft across. The photos and description didn’t quite show the true size, but that’s all part of the job.

Access was restricted by an older decked area, so the tracked grinder wasn’t an option. After reducing the stump with a chainsaw, the FSI grinder got to work.

✔️ Around 2 hours grinding
✔️ Stump removed below ground level
✔️ Area left ready for landscaping

One of our recent jobs in Trull, Taunton for a longstanding client.

This Prunus cerasifera had become diseased and was accompanied by a number of large surface roots which were causing issues within the garden. Using our FSI B22 stump grinder, we removed the stump along with the entire surface root footprint, leaving the area ready for landscaping.

The final photo shows the transformation completed by the client following our work. The original tree has now been replaced with two varieties of container-grown Japanese Acer, creating a completely different look for the garden.
