Recently finished this Painting & Decorating project for our client in Chatteris.

A pretty straightforward job for a change. Light filling and sanding then primer (stabilisation fluid) and painting. We’ve seen several projects this year whereby the contractor has omitted the stabilisation step on never previously painted brick or rendered surfaces which is great until extreme heat or frost cracks the paint and remedying the surface susceptible to water ingress, not to mention looking awful! Please don’t accept a quote from anyone who excludes this important step. You could regret it! 🤦‍♂️

Yet another great job! Our 3rd from this client this year alone! 👏👏👏

Recently finished installing this Painting & Decorating project for our client in Somersham.

We tackled the challenge using various products and techniques, our primary deep fill product range being Timbabuild EHB60, and made several visits to complete the next steps. We’ve said it before but this type of job doesn’t have a quick fix, it’s a softly softly approach sanding out and building up the surface until a suitable finish is in place.

Another great job that has already led to several enquiries and two referrals 😄!

Recently finished installing this Reparation, Painting & Decorating project for our client in Somersham. ⚜️

The client had already had another tradesperson in to tackle the rotting window sills but they hadn’t done a particularly good job and had used the wrong type of products for deep fills, leaving our client in despair 😩.

We tackled the challenge using various products and techniques, our primary product range being Timbabuild, and made numerous visits to complete the next steps.

This type of job doesn’t have a quick fix, it’s a softly softly approach sanding out and building up the surface until a suitable finish is in place 🎨😉

Another great job that has already led to two more orders! ✅✅

The unit was supplied by the client and wasn’t without complications ranging from missing and incorrect parts (something you wouldn’t expect from one of the UKs largest suppliers of timber structures) but our team overcame these in a number of ways including using our local timber supplier to provide alternatives.

TOP TIP: If you don’t want to do it yourself don’t be fooled by cheap labour being the answer!

This year we’ve experienced numerous examples of homeowners contracting a cheaper alternative to a quality experienced business and have come out needing to either spend again to put things right or just live with a very poor finish.

ALWAYS:

✅ Seek references of similar jobs and go and check them out.

✅ Check their public liability insurance, don’t take their word for it actually ask to see it and make sure it covers the work they are actually doing. You’d be surprised how manygardeners take on decorating jobs but aren’t covered to do so! Similarly a decorator might not have suitable cover to install a kitchen.

So the wise words here are if you value your property make sure it, and you, are protected by checking your contractors insurance cover or be it at your peril.

MAKE SURE: That you understand the process, and yes Google can help here. You don’t need to become an expert or professional but a general understanding of the steps involved will help you to check the quote matches the job and it’ll protect your investment by ensuring important steps aren’t missed. Examples we’ve seen this year include:

❌ Knots in wood not sealed with knotting solution prior to painting- which will lead to the sap from the knots bleeding through / staining.

❌ Unpainted brick surfaces not having a coat of stabilising solution applied prior to painting. Without this vital step it’s likely that the first sign of extreme heat or frost will lead to the paint cracking and flaking which could cost thousands of pounds to correct.

❌ The wrong type of product used to fill / repair window frames leading to us being contracted to remove and repair correctly before painting.

💡Buy cheap does often mean pay twice, so be careful and if unsure ask a genuine expert.
