With approximately 5% functional sapwood remaining, the specimen was heavily colonised by multiple fungi, including advanced Ganoderma at the base and Fomes fomentarius on deadwood in the upper canopy.

We had an incredible experience exploring the ancient woodlands around Sutton Hoo today!

It's amazing to see such a powerful decomposer at work. A truly memorable moment connecting with nature and history.
