Our Checkatrade renewal has arrived for the coming year, and I was genuinely shocked by the cost: £7,228.00.
After carefully reviewing the figures, we've made the decision not to renew our membership.
To put that cost into perspective, we would need to generate around £50,000–£60,000 of turnover simply to cover the membership fee—before making a single penny of profit.
In reality, for the membership to make financial sense, we would need to secure at least £150,000 worth of work through Checkatrade. Unfortunately, that has never happened during all the years we have been members.
The continual annual price increases have now reached a point where the membership is simply no longer affordable or commercially viable for our business.
This isn't a decision we've taken lightly, but every business has to regularly assess whether an investment is delivering a worthwhile return. For us, the numbers just no longer stack up.
Unfortunately we will loose all our reviews which are well over 200 However on a good note we are working hard on receiving reviews on Google which will always remain online.
We'd be interested to hear from other tradespeople and business owners—have you experienced similar increases, and do you still find these platforms offer value for money?
