Roofing is not an area where shortcuts or guesswork should be a factor. Even a ‘minor’ error on a roof can quickly cause major damage and carries huge reputation risk. Here are 5 key considerations:

1. Cost and quality – choose the right tile for the job, not the cheapest or the one that looks best. Every roof project is unique, so make sure you consider all aspects.

2. Structural considerations – You can’t put a new roof over old problems, so assess and rectify any insulation or ventilation issues.

3. Time = money. Ensure all aspects of the work are budgeted for - from stripping old areas, scaffolding, skip hire and waste permits - they all need to be factored in.

4. Building regulations – preparing ahead means you’re not delayed by a Building Regs requirement. It’s easiest to do it right first time and have the paperwork in place

5. Know your team – what contractors are working on this build? Check references and make sure insurance is up to scratch.

For your next build, follow these top tips to help your project go smoothly:

1. Order early and in one go – if you split your order there is an increase chance of shade variation.

2. We recommend ordering extras to allow for any breakages but also so future repairs can use the same stock from the same batch.

3. Blend tiles from multiple pallets during installation, not pallet-by-pallet. Mixing tiles from 3-4 packs as you go avoids visual variations.

4.Photograph the roof at each phase. This is invaluable for your record keeping but also adds to your portfolio for future marketing!
