Silver Birch Tree With TPO in rapid decline due to Honey Fungus infection.
Honey Fungus produces mushrooms around the base of trees it has infected. The symptoms appear in the crowns of infected trees as discoloured foliage, reduced growth, dieback of the branches and eventually death.
You can never cure a tree of Honey Fungus, you can get the fungus to go into remission where the tree returns to health and vigor but unfortunately by the time it was diagnosed the damage was too severe to consider trying to save this tree.
In the interests of safety the decision was made by the Local Planning Authority to lift the preservation order so that the tree could be dismantled to ground level. The stump then ground out entirely below ground level.
